Riddle: How many dots?

Well I'm pretty sure it's not just the same die rotated a number of different ways. If you take the first picture and rotate it to be the second picture by just flipping it over onto the side with one dot, the 3 will be oriented wrong, so you will have to either rotate it about the axis defined by the (3)(whatever is opposite 3) sides. If you rotate it away from you, the 5 is on top like in the 2nd picture, but the side facing you is the 1 you see, not the 6 as shown in the second picture. However if you rotate it towards you, you might see a 6, but then the 5 would be on the bottom.

Anyone else get this or did I mess something up?

The question is "How many Dots?", that's all you get 😕

Any ideas? 😕

Analyzing the image, there are three die that appear inconsistent with the dot patterns of a standard six-sided die. On a standard die, each opposing side contains dots that together total a sum of seven, so it is impossible for adjacent sides to feature a sum of seven dots. However, the left-most die in the top row and the two left-most dice in the bottom row feaure adjacent sides that do total to seven.

I'm not sure how to interpret that to answer the question properly, but it is odd, nonetheless, so I'd wager that it's relevant in some way.

It's easy. Take the first number that is not shown at all. That's a 7, so the first digit is 7. Then take the next number which is shown the least. That's a 2, so the second digit is 2.

72

Or, I have no friggin clue.

6-sided die do NOT have a '7' side....

That's why 7 is the first number in sequence that you don't see at all.

Trust me, it all makes sense. 😉
