if memory serves me correctly, Al Gore ran a pretty bad campaign -- running away from Bill Clinton's record at the height of his popularity.

It was about the time of the Lewinski thing and he made the choice to distance himself.

Unfortunately (?), the... issue did not stain as much as other things did and people still liked Clinton. So Al threw away a major advantage... and still nearly won.

Do I believe that should his daughter live to an older age and come out as gay that Santorum would then hate his daughter? Yes. I don't think he "hates" gay people, but he sure doesn't think they should be able to adopt, have homosexual sex, or enter into any kind of civil union.

He thinks they should go back in the closet, in general. When it comes to the military he thinks they should go back in the closet and deny that a closet exists.
