I honestly don't know what you mean by economic record? Texas just got done gutting everything. Projections are Texas unemployment rate is to spike within the next 6-12 months.

And I honestly don't know why the tea party supports him. I guess they dont know his record or ignore parts of his record.

The guy a clown who has show zero leadership since first taking office. His the biggest flip flopper known to man. He has taken cronyism to levels previously unheard of in politics. The state GOP party has rebuked his policies repeatedly over the years. Most elected Republicans do not support him. Did I mention hes ran the state of Texas in to the ground?

This whole dogma of about lower taxation is stupid. Texas is one of the lowest taxed states. The Texas government has know for years that growth would eventually outstrip revenue with our current revenue system. No one did a thing other than start hacking off limbs and screwing future Texans. Texas needs a responsible system of revenue and spending. You don't just gut every thing. Once the impact of the recently passed budget is fully felt, Perry will have problems carrying Texas.

Gutting Everything - Good and they're not done
Unemployment Projections - Give me a break, Texas has the best employment picture of any state right now
Taxes - Lowest taxes, but we have a $6B rainy day fund. What other state can say that?
Gutting Everying - Good, again. This needs to be repeated.

PS, I live in Texas. I will agree that he's not done well in other issues, like boarder security, but he's better than the current option we have. At least he's willing to cut budget deficits.

The states own numbers show there will be atleast 335,000 people losing their jobs just because of the recently passed budget. Also Texas unemployment is at 8%, so I am not sure what the fuck you are smoking. Texas unemployment is expected to eventually hit close to the national average(9%).

What can they say? They can say they have better education, better health care, and in general a better quality of life than Texas.

A look at high school graduation rates via the NY Times
http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/02/graduation-rates-by-state-and-race/

Texas 73% just below national average. Not bad for a state with such a large minority population.

California 71%
New York 70%
Washington state 71% What gives?

I'll reiterate, Texas has historically padded its numbers, at the local level to the state level. HISD got caught with its pants down a few years ago. If its any clue Texas has three "official" dropout rates. None of them match.

Also, stats are not the same for all states. Some states count people who eventually get a GED as not dropping out, other states do not.

And for the record I have lived in Texas for all but two years of my life. I dropped out in 9th grade, returned a year later finished 9th grade, and dropped out again. Got my GED at 18. I'd consider that dropping out of high school but that is not how its counted in Texas.

Since JUN of 2009, Texas has produced 48% of all jobs created in the USA. That's what Mr. Perry said.

In 2010 of the top ten real estate markets in the country, five were in Texas.

Yes, Texas is having troubles but we are doing much, much better than any other big state.

....by big state I mean a state that has at least as many people as the DFW area.

Actually, Texas has had 37% of the net jobs in the US since the recovery started, but at the same time we went from somewhere in ~6% unemployment range to 8% unemployment. FYI as of April, New York has 7.9% unemployment. What is funny is while Perry has touted his inaccurate numbers, Texas has gained 265,000 jobs(but still has higher unemployment, is that really a recovery?) since the recovery has started but its projected to lose 335,000. Texas gains 265,000 but is going to lose 335,000. If my math is correct, thats -70,000.

Texas isn't doing ANY better, its just better at using accounting gimmicks and trickery.

He padded that number as well. It was actually 37%. Wreckem beat me to it.

Just out of curiosity, has New York gained or lost population, relative to Texas in the last census? After the figures were in from the 2010 census, Texas gained four Congressional seats. How did New York or California do?

Texas has had a higher net increase yes, but I do believe almost every state had a net gain of population.
The census is a 10 year number, and really has no effect on unemployment. Numbers tend to show most unemployed are NOT able to freely move to other states. Texas trend of population growth started well before 2000 and will continue well into the future thanks for the most part to its hispanic population.

You cannot legitimately say unemployed people moved to Texas and that is what has driven up Texas unemployment. If that is what you are trying to say by the census numbers you are just flat out wrong.

I'd prefer neither, but if it looked like Perry had any real chance of winning I'd vote Obama just to prevent it. I will stop at NOTHING to prevent theocrats or neocons from attaining power. Those two groups are the greatest threats to the world that currently exist. I'm fine with old school Republicans, libertarians (to a point), or many other types of conservatives...but the religious whackos and pnac'ers gotta go.

That makes no sense at all. Why then, would you support a person, Bobo, the Post Turtle, when he is all about supporting the muslim radicals in their quest for a world wide Caliphate? That's the most dangerous and freedom hating religion on the face of the earth.

Just to ferret out all the employment data from all the text.

Texas currently has 8% unemployment
Texas "gained" 265,000 jobs since the "recovery".
Texas own reports show budget cuts will cause 335,000 jobs to be lost

When did the recovery start again? I ask because Texas peaked in Dec 2010 at 8.3% unemployment and has been over 8% since 2008.

Also, we need to look at what types of jobs have been created since the recovery. Most have been short term, or retail/fastfood. Half of the net jobs in the US for the month of May were jobs are McDonalds.

I believe, and I could be wrong, but the 37% figure is for this past year. The 48% figure is for two years.

In any event it is way ahead of any other state.

No. One is jobs created, one is net jobs created. And 265k net jobs is not way ahead. We are still at 8% unemployment and Perry's own policies are wiping out all of those net 265k jobs. What do you not get?

I heard a sack of cold oatmeal is going to win against Obama. In fact, it's going to be so bad, the sack of cold oatmeal will get Obama impeached and imprisoned before this week is over!!

Sack of Cold Oatmeal,... YOU WILL LEAD THIS COUNTRY BACK INTO THE GLORIOUS STATE IT FELL FROM!!!

Should we consider this a formal declaration of your candidacy?

Who cares how many jobs you create if they're largely crappy fast food, service and/or low paying jobs with no benefits. Again, Texas standard of living is crap and it has one of the worst records for taking care of their citizens in the entire union despite their massive size.

Like I'm going to listen to statistics and numbers regarding unemployment being spouted by a high school drop out. 🙄
