I used to live down the road (I-64) in Newport News. I never had any problems in Richmond. If anything commute from the James City County area to your job up there. There is still some country settings there if that is what you want.

I used to live in Newport News (and Gloucester before that)! Small world.

I'm going to be working in a town called Glen Alen, which is on the NW side of the city near Short Pump.

If you like a state with actual seasons, alot to do, access to tons and tons of history... Consider it, I grew in VA and wish I could move back there. 🙁

Hard to find an IT job there though...

That is one that that VA has. Lots of history, from Jamestown to Williamsburg, Monticello, and the capitol of the confederacy, to Yorktown, there is always something to visit and learn something. I always liked going to the Casemate Museum at Ft. Monroe (probably the oldest Army base still in use including the grounds inside the old fort.

I live about 50 miles south of Richmond. To be honest I don't hang out there much, but I think the area that you are talking about isn't that bad and might be one of the better areas to work/live. You might want to look into an area called Chesterfield or Henrico. A lot of people live in these areas and commute to Richmond, it isn't to far away actually. One of my best friends lives in Midlothian off of Hull Street. For Chesterfield you might try http://www.co.chesterfield.va.us.

Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.

Oh yeah Short Pump. I think that it is one of the more afluent areas in the region of Richmond. New construction going on etc. Close to an area called Innsbrook (sp) or something. Lots of big business in the area. More affluent expensive type stuff. I'll type more if I can think of anything.

What are you guys talking about! Virginia pwns!

I've lived in CA all my life with high power bills and high property values..my family owns about 60 acres of land somewhere over there. My relatives live over there too! And omg, they have TWO REFRIDGERATORS! and they run the AC 24/7, and their cost of living is still lower too!!!

And they have this place called kings dominion!!! With this roller coaster that goes underwater (like viper at six flags, but underwater)...and this one with an indoor loop and all sorts of stuff. AND best of all, theres no WAIT!!! No wait at all!!!!!!! And Busch gardens (maybe i have the wrong state here), pwns too! Free beer!

fatbaby you are correct, though it has been a long time since I visited Kings Dominion or Bush Gardens. Bush Gardens is close to Williamsburg and Kings Dominion is about 45 minutes north of Richmond on I95.

Anaconda at King's Dominion does indeed go underwater. Busch Gardens-The Old Country is right next door to the brewery and last I remember you could still get 2 free beers when you went to the ho(hospitality)-house. Das Festhaus still has plenty of beer to drink (though you have to pay for it.) I used to work there and spent many a day pretty wasted and riding the roller coasters there.
