it has been the case since trinity was released...
trinity is VLIW4 (like the 6900 series), the 7600m, 6700m (same gpu as the 6600 desktop GPU) is VLIW5 (like the 6800 series)

the trouble was, the smallest GCN GPU had 640SPs (disabled to 512 for the slowest versions), now AMD released a new GCN GPU with 384SPs, so it makes a little bit more sense to use in DG,
