Richest of the rich ponder how to level the field

With the global economy slowly getting back on its feet, 2,500 delegates gathered in Davos face a vexing question this week: How to spread the wealth.

Dangers surrounding income inequality are not lost on those attending the World Economic Forum

"In the United Stated, people in the middle and bottom are shrinking and people on the top are rising. That's not what globalization was supposed to do for them," Morici said.

"For President Obama , it's very troubling because he's been a big advocate for globalization."
Recent studies have shown American wealth disparity at its highest level since the Great Depression.

Concerns over inequality "should act as a wake-up call" to Davos attendees, Philip Jennings, general secretary of the labor group UNI Global Union

Morici, however, said he doesn't expect much to come it

"This is the biggest problem of our time," said. "We need to have more balanced growth across the globe."

The government can't spread the wealth. You need jobs created to help with the problem of income inequality.

Im sure it will involve low fed interest rates and govt programs, run by the rich. Which will magically not spread the wealth to the poor or middle class. But end up in the hands of the rich.

Inequality is the economic challenge of the century, and GOP is still peddling the same trickle down that got us to this point. The trend is not their friend. :)

You mean they can't just write me a check?

The inheritance tax worked very well at breaking up concentrations of wealth.

Ahh, another of these bigoted rants fueled by the OP's own ignorance and jealousy. :\

Actually guaranteed minimum income is probably the best way to alleviate this problem.

Of all the schemes designed to do this, yours is the most agreeable.

Problem though, if our labor costs so much more, how does it find a place in the global economy? The world chases cheap labor for cheap product. Ourselves included.

Yes it does. Socialism doesn't work.

Free market doesn't work in health care. Proven time and time again. How many developed countries with universal coverage countries leave it up to free markets? Zero. It's either single payer or individual mandate.

I can provide the most time tested, tried and true method... but it's not one anyone likes.

War.

Nothing levels the playing field like it. Which is why it seems to happen to often. Do not take this as advocating for it, because I'm not. But I wouldn't be surprised if something bad happened soon on a large enough scale to shake the economy by removing enough members that compete for resources.

A bit wrong in that single payer doesn't regulate the actual health care system. It's all about the insurance side of things. Actual managed health care would be something along the lines of the British system.

Free market works in healthcare. Those countries are run by people who believe the government knows best and only government can run healthcare.

You're an idiot if you actually believe the system before obamacare was free market.

And you conveniently ignore the problems those countries with socialized healthcare face such as the death panels and rationing. Even Howard Dean attacked obamacare for the rationing.

We could send the wealthy out to the countryside to learn from the peasants.

Oh wait, we did that. They came back with a big bag of farm subsidies.
