I don't believe in just giving the government more money to maybe give out properly. If you really want to help someone, find a local poor working person, or family with kids, and leave something randomly on their doorstep. Also, donate food, people do love to eat and such. Also, homeless shelters can always use funds and volunteers. I've actually been homeless before, so I know first hand that not everyone there is just a bum. Shit happens.

If they were as altruistic as you say, they would donate THEIR money to the government, and perhaps run a campaign to encourage others to do the same.
