I was told that part of the tricks to cook good taste rice is how much heat is applied during the whole process. If I remember correctly, it's supposed to use high heat to get to boil first, then followed by a different level of heat.

That might explain why they spend that much effort to design the fuzzy logic rice cooker. It does make differences.

If you're going to spend $99 on a rice cooker, you should go the extra $40 and get the neuro fuzzy logic one from Costco. Perfect rice every time. The program in advance feature is very handy. I thought it was just a gimmick when I first got this, but I use it all the time now. Set the rice up hours in advance and it will be done at exactly the time you program.

yep, the expensive rice cookers are well worth it, if you eat a lot of rice. it's a snap, you get perfect rice and it keeps for quite a while.

BTW, does any one know if there are any rice cooker Modding or Overclocking forums around? I'm thinking a nice red cold cathode tube would be nice...

Zojirushi is the top (Zo means elephant and jirushi means trade mark)...Use it and their Hot water gizmo 24/7...Been eating rice since infancy born and each brand has it's own unique taste (kinna like Occidental who chose different bread). There's long and short grain, brown and white, and the flavors that can be added are to numerous to mention...Thanks Jokersmoker I'd jump on this if my cousin wasn't bringing a new one over from Japan///oh and I keep my rice Cooker under a night light ;)

Hey Hans didn't you have a final from 11:30 to 2:30? I guess you finished by 1 huh?

This one is probably good (I think I use to have one that's just like it), but I don't know, 100 bucks is too much.

The worst is those microwave rice cookers though. =)

This is not that hot of a deal, it's a very good cooker but I got a 10 cup from the same manufacturer for less than what Amazon is selling the 5 cup for. Don't mean to be cr&pping on your find just passing on info.

Zojirushi, is one of the better rice cookers. But unfortuneatly our neuro fuzzy always dripped water down our rice (ehw). Anyways, never ever buy a rice cooker outside of Asian markets, Tak Shing Hong (sort of a ChineseRite-Aid) is the best place for these cookers. That same rice cooker as Amazon could be sold for much less. They probably can sell it for less because they sell more of these than anywhere else.

I don't know about you, but if I had my way it would be I would prefer it cooked in those ceramic rice pots. Something about those thing that makes it taste better than those machines.

<< BTW IMHO Cal Rose is one of the best brands of rice you can buy >>

mikeford, you're joking, right. IMO Cal Rose is junk.

Go buy a bag of Nishiki or Kokuho and then see if you still like Cal Rose.

Rainguy, Costco has two or three different brands of rice in large bags. I use the Indian one; I can't remember the brand but it's in a burlap bag. They have an Asian one, too. Wish I could be more specific. And they also carry large bags of minute rice (ew!) for the lazy American, lol. BTW, I am neither Asian or white, so I don't mean to offend - except the lazy American... ;)

Another type of good rice is the 3 Elephant brand. You can pretty much get it in any chinese supermarkets or bodega.

Go in and tell them.

'All Yield Mai'

And they get it for ya. ;)

carmann,

You sound like one of my roommates. She says the same thing about
the brands of rice. Bro you know your rice. Not that it matters,
but are you Asian or just a person who knows their rice.
Myself, I like saffron rice.

Road Rage, I'm 1/2 Japanese. I always buy Nishiki or Kokuho because it has a better flavor and it's a higher quality rice. My mom buys that cheap Cal Rose crap because that's what she's eaten for year.
