The RIAA is nowhere as big as you might think. Their sales for last year were down to $14 billion last year compared to their all-time high of $16 billion in '99. All things considered, it's easy to see that the poor economy is largely responsible, NOT file-sharing. In fact, the RIAA's all-time sales record occurred during the early peak of Napster's popularity.Originally posted by: ROTC1983
They don't seem to have much common sense. Who is in charge of the RIAA right now? I might have to look that up.Originally posted by: jliechty
Sales aren't especially low, they're just lower than they were a few years ago. Instead of thinking logically and realizing that the sh!tty economy is the major part of the problem, the RIAA is trying to sue every file sharer and their brother (and their parents). Not the best way to solve the supposed "problem," IMHO.Originally posted by: ROTC1983

What I hope is that buymusic.com really picks up, and the RIAA can't get it's hands on the internet market (where they would make more money than just getting a certain percentage of the money)
If the RIAA is so hampered by low sales...

Everyone should fight the RIAA they will go bankrupt. It's not that hard to file motions and defend yourself even if your willing to put the time in. It will cost them big bucks too for each case. I don't wish this on anyone though.
File leins. I can't remember what kind specifically, but their is a lein you can file on property which is free to file, save the cost of postage and the paper to print the form on. There was an environmentalist who filed no less than 25,000 leins on a single company to protest its dumping policy. It took them about 5 minutes to get each lein reversed in court, but that's 5 minutes times 25,000, not to mention legal costs of the proceedings.
Someone who's law savvy should look this crap up.

Remember 10 or so years ago when your geek friends told you that someday you'd be able to listen to any song you wanted to or any movie you wanted to at any time you wanted to? Having grown up in the '70s with AM radio and a 19" black and white TV with 4 channels (plus PBS), I had looked forward to that someday all my life. Well, "that someday" was 3 years ago, but some asshole business execs decided to make it illegal because they wouldn't be able to control it the way they wanted to.
Thank you, RIAA/MPAA :|

If I do have mp3s on my computer as backup and I don't have kazaa, RIAA can't do anything, right?

what i dont understand is that you can be fined anywhere from $750 to $15,000 per song you have on your computer. shouldn't a judge overturn this decision? it seems absurd to me that the music industry could justify that they're losing that much revenue PER SONG.

Do you get a free pass if you were sharing Liza Mineli or DMB songs?
Yeah but they actually have songs worth listening too (unlike Liza and Dave) I guess the RIAA figure that the Gay audience is worth major bucks!Originally posted by: pulse8

The last time I used Kazaa was back when they were offering a Linux client, shortly after they shut out Morpheus. Am I fairly safe?
I keep forgetting that Dave is the Jimi Hendrix of Rythym Guitar...BwuhahahahahaOriginally posted by: pulse8
