"There's no way either us or our daughter would do anything we knew to be illegal," Pate said, promising to remove the software quickly. "I don't think anybody knew this was illegal, just a way to get some music."
Bullshit.

Bullshit.

The reality is that using Kazaa is just so easy that many don't even think about the fact that what they're doing is illegal. I know that most of the people here know full well what they're getting into, but do you expect the other millions of users to be equally concious?

Everyone should fight the RIAA they will go bankrupt. It's not that hard to file motions and defend yourself even if your willing to put the time in. It will cost them big bucks too for each case. I don't wish this on anyone though.

What I hope is that buymusic.com really picks up, and the RIAA can't get it's hands on the internet market (where they would make more money than just getting a certain percentage of the money)

If the RIAA is so hampered by low sales, how are they getting all this money for lawyers and all the other crap they are using to fight against P2P?

Sales aren't especially low, they're just lower than they were a few years ago. Instead of thinking logically and realizing that the sh!tty economy is the major part of the problem, the RIAA is trying to sue every file sharer and their brother (and their parents). Not the best way to solve the supposed "problem," IMHO.

Can you imagine how much they will whine when RIAA officers are shot dead in the street? Well maybe not here (more of a celebration)

Bullsh!t yourself. I've spoken with many non-tech savvy people who had no idea that file sharing was illegal. Just like that guy, they had thought they found a great way to get free music. When I would tell that it was illegal, they would be honestly surprised.

As I've said many times before, the RIAA may slow down file sharing, but this will be a terrible public relations disaster for them. They should have just opened more outlets for people to buy and download files inexpensively online. Instead they're suing their own customer base.

They don't seem to have much common sense. Who is in charge of the RIAA right now? I might have to look that up.

It's too late for them to turn back, though. They can't just stop everything and say, "You guys were right."

Pate said that he never personally downloaded music and that he so zealously respects copyrights that he does not videotape movies off cable television channels.

Whatever.

File leins. I can't remember what kind specifically, but their is a lein you can file on property which is free to file, save the cost of postage and the paper to print the form on. There was an environmentalist who filed no less than 25,000 leins on a single company to protest its dumping policy. It took them about 5 minutes to get each lein reversed in court, but that's 5 minutes times 25,000, not to mention legal costs of the proceedings.

Someone who's law savvy should look this crap up.

Do you think that when push comes to shove that some enterprising individuals might torch some Tower Record stores in retliation? Not that I would condone such actions as green haired idiots with multiple piercings need the work!
