Sistani is old and more then likely will kick the bucket soon leaving a power vacum.

Also many people did not like the fact that he stood by and as Sadr's father was killed by Saddam and did nothing in return. Many Shiite view that as a black spot on his name. Sadr's father and himself had both openly opposed Saddam.
