$20 Coupon code:VGA62620
$25 MIR
-Thanks to member, Allies
Like last time the code probably expires fast. There is an obvious trend here to move the 4850's. Interesting. I have mine from the previous deal (Asus). No OC and I hit 13k 3Dmark 06. I can run 700mhz (625mhz stock) easily but the fan is noisy at max rpm.

I was going to mention the combo deal with a free 2gb SD card but the promo code won't work with it.

ASUS EAH4850/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Asus $30 rebate end 6-30
Coupon Code VGA62320
$149.99 AR + FREE SHIPPING!

SAPPHIRE 100242L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Sapphire $20 rebate ends 7-9-08
Coupon Code VGA62320
$154.99 AR + FREE SHIPPING!

New 4850 Comparative Review

I just ordered the Asus 4850 with P5Q Pro combo deal yesterday. I tried using the $20 VGA coupon code with it and it won't work it seems. I am going to call them and see if I can apply the code. I doubt it but I can still use the $30 rebate.

edit: The coupon code doesn't seem to work anymore. Price is now $169.99 AR ($199.99 OOP). Not so hot anymore. With 4870's and GTX260 about to hit shelves, I'd wait for the next hot deal.

Shitty thing is, that $20 off, pretty much takes away the new NY state tax newegg has to charge...

$20 saved is $20 saved.
I know the feeling though. I just bought about $2000 of stuff online since the new NY Tax law went into affect a few weeks ago. $140 to the government and what do I get in return? A water main break and subway stoppage on my commute this morning.

QFT! I'd like to add shitty weekend service.

This card is better than my 9600GT, right? I should jump on this card, right? Convince me not to...for the sake of my marriage!

Same reference design. Its up to brand preference. Not listing the rebate in the price on the site is a little suspicious though.

Your 9600GT is fine for current games. Wait until you're dissatisfied.

Those of you contemplating replacing 8800GT and 9600GT or even a 3870 for this card, I wouldn't recommend it. The difference isn't that great IMHO unless you can recoup the costs through selling your old cad or something. If you look at the charts, this card doesn't SMOKE those other cards. 10-20% more fps or so is great but not a shocking double FPS increase like the GX280 or GX2.

This deal is great for people who need an upgrade from older, like mine is a X1950 256... so this is a HUGE upgrade hehe.

How much would an Athlon X2 @ 2.6Ghz bottleneck this. I'm thinking about using the card in my HTPC system with said processor and 2GB RAM. I'll be driving my 37" 1366x768 display. I figure that I'll be able to crank just about every game I'd want to (FIFA, Madden, Bioshock, NFS, etc) to highest details and 8xAA 16xAF and be fine (try to get rid of the processor bottleneck). Thanks in advance... right now it's on integrated and any kind of gaming sucks 😛

Which one is better, ASUS or Sapphire?

sappire rebates take a LONG time to get even if you do everything right. I'd go with asus just because of that.

Is asus going to still honor the rebate even though it's not listed on newegg's site any more? what if they only honor the rebate from newegg for launch day since that was the only day it was listed on their site?

4850 will absolutely destroy 9600gt using any comparison you'd like to make. it's 30% faster than 8800gt, which is 15-20% faster than 9600gt. $150 for a 50% improvement is tough to pass up imho.

actually it's 30% for 8800gt and more like 50% for 3870/9600gt. that's nothing to sneeze at imho.

Too hot of a deal to pass up

thanks OP

I went with the ASUS with the coupon code,

lets pray that the Rebate goes thru also,
but even without that this is a great deal for a great card

thanks again.

P.S
I also went thru Windows live search for 2.7% off @ newegg
search.live.com/cashback

You're right when it comes to pure benchmarks like 3Dmark, but in most cases for straight FPS, results vary a lot. It's no question that the 4850 beats those cards though.

its better than a 9600GT. but i dont think its worth bothering buying this... mailing rebates , and havin to presumeably sell your 9600gt for the upgrade.

seeing as if you sell a 9600GT now, on say ebay after fees and such its mabye only $100.

i guess it depends how hardcore a gamer you are.

Well, if it's supposedly better than an 8800/9600, then I assume I made a good choice in getting one to replace my 7900GT?
