I don't know any smokers who are stupid enough to do that here, bushfires aren't fun for anyone :p

Hey Dug, do you recall seeing on the News back at the start of the year, the massive Bushfires around Junee which killed 3 people...that was started by a ciggy butt...we could see the flames from where I lived 60 kays away...that was a huge fire

How could you possibly know that?

Hmm, maybe they found the source of the fire, and it turned out to be ciggy butts...maybe, that's just me guessing ;) I don't know how they go in the US, but they usually work out what started many major bushfires here...

"They" work it out eh?? I think "They" say a lot of things.

Well, by they i mean the state emergency services, fire brigade, and the relevant arson squad if that's suspected :p

You're an idiot. They bounce when slowing from 70Mph unless you have some kind of shoalin monk skill that allows you to put a spin on it so it lands at a dead stop.

And yeah, some people do this dumb holding-it-at-roof-level release thing, too.

That's to keep it from blowing back in.

Except it makes it more likely to blow into a following car, but what the hey, you're clear, right?

The whole situation is absurd... people are driving down the highway at 75mph with their window open wasting untold amounts of gas due to additional drag, tossing land mine-like cigs out their window, and when you happen to meet one of these socially inept fools they use the excuse, "I don't want my car to smell like smoke, so I don't use an ashtray".

Yep, that's exactly right. And you know what, I will continue to do just that, because I know it pisses you off.

I gave up smoking years ago and lost out on all the fun of throwing my butts out the window.

So now I suck on Tootsie Pops when I drive. When I get to the sticky Tootsie Roll center I throw the stick out the window. I get 5 points if it sticks to someones car. 10 points if it goes inside.

I posted about this a while back, like last year or so. I can't find the original post, but this morning's commute just reaffirmed to me that smokers have no common sense, decency or morals.

On the way in to work this morning on the highway, one of the cars in front of me tossed their cig out the window. Oooh, look at the pretty sparks as it hits the road. Needless to say, it ended up in my travel lane and I hope for the sake of all that I actually ran it over to put it out. We almost have a drought here in central FL, so fire hazards are starting to go up again.

Whoopie you say. Now for the kicker...

Not more than 5 minutes down the road from that incident, out of the corner of my eye I catch another barrage of nice amber sparks as yet another cigarette hits the frame of my car door where I have the window open probably about 3 inches to catch some morning air. The lit cigarette proceeds to bounce off the frame and into my lap, then onto the floor of my car.

Gee, thanks. GET AN ASH TRAY ASH-HOLES! And use it too.

sue them for battery. and assault. and negligent infliction of emotional distress. i hope you got a license plate number because what is a cigarette butt in your lap when you're int the lap of luxury?

I always defend smokers and their right to blacken their lungs as they please, and really hate anti-smoking nazis. But have some consideration and dispose of your damn cig in the ashtray where it belongs. I've gotten hit in the face with butts when I'm on my motorcycle and it pisses me off.

I saw some dude dump a whole bag of empty fast food out the window on the highway the other day, probably wasn't an accident considering the soda cup flew out a second later. Some people, smokers or non-smokers, are pigs.

Smoking is just the current fashion for the hate mongers.

I smoke and I've maybe used the window twice in my life (and I'm not a kid). So don't ASSume that because the OP's seen a couple jerks that all smokers are jerks.

Or are is someone gonna say all people who eat are jerks too?

I've had numerous cancerstick butts land inside my convertible while driving, often still lit. Once I was able to catch up to the a$$hole and I threw it back at him through his open window and said something like "I believe you lost this in my car back there".

But I've had stranger things thrown into my car. Once a guy lobbed a fully-wrapped taco bell burrito, landing squarely on my passenger seat. Another guy threw a stinkbomb into my car and it shattered at the area where the windshield meets the dashboard. The vial broke open and the stink fluid drained into my defrost vents.... guess how pleasant that was for the next two months?

I really love people.

*cough*

Its happened to me twice over the years, the first time it landed in my lap & I didn't notice till I was getting burned & the second time it put a good sized hole in my back seat fabric! ... If you don't want your car to stink like nasty cigarettes, don't smoke while driving!

While I support peoples right to smoke cigarettes if they choose, I don't appreciate when I'm forced to breath their smoke or to see the extra litter they produce by throwing butts on the ground because its more convenient. Contrary to popular belief, considerate smokers do exist, it seems they are the tiny minority though & its too bad they have to suffer because of all the slobs who share the habit.

I do not EVVVAARRRR support anyone's right to spread cancer (2nd hand smoke), or destroy other people property (like a lit cig ruining my seat cover), or inflict bodily harm (like the guy who got burned by some jackass's lit cig landing in his lap).

Cigaretts should be out and out made illegal and possession should be punishable by law! What "legitimate" good comes from cigaretts? - NONE!

Try and tell that to the guy who's job it is to pick up cigarette butts. Not joking. My building complex (at work) has one janitor whose ENTIRE job is to walk around the outside of the buildings and sweep up cigarette butts (and empty the ashtrays outside). Enough people smoke that by the time he's made one round, the beginning is ready to be picked up again.

See? Smoking CREATES JOBS ! :)

Many public places are either Non-Smoking only or are phasing it out in Ohio. I FVCKING hate it when these dumbasses think its OK to crowd around the entrance smoking like it's their last damn minute on earth while creating a WALL of smoke that everyone else has to WALK THROUGH in order to get into a NON-SMOKING establishment. Absolutely stupid. I always walk by and say 'thank you for not smoking'.

Congratulations, you have just earned permanent douchebag status.

I had a guy throw his gum out of his car while on the highway. It stuck on my windshield and made a huge splat right across my vison. I had to pull over and scrape it off with a ice scraper in order to drive. Had I been able to keep up with him, I would of driven next to him and threw my full 1 litter bottle of pepsi at his car.

Seems like you missed the point. Let me try to make it even simpler:

Please do not throw your used/unused lit/unlit butts out the window. Instead try using the ash tray in your car. Thanks.

Yeah, let people do what they want on their own property and with their own bodies and mind your own fscking business.

Something doesn't have to be "good" for people to be allowed to do it. By that measure we could ban half the things YOU enjoy.

In other words, don't be so quick to gore bulls just because they aren't yours.

Make littering illegal?
