I posted about this a while back, like last year or so. I can't find the original post, but this morning's commute just reaffirmed to me that smokers have no common sense, decency or morals.

On the way in to work this morning on the highway, one of the cars in front of me tossed their cig out the window. Oooh, look at the pretty sparks as it hits the road. Needless to say, it ended up in my travel lane and I hope for the sake of all that I actually ran it over to put it out. We almost have a drought here in central FL, so fire hazards are starting to go up again.

Whoopie you say. Now for the kicker...

Not more than 5 minutes down the road from that incident, out of the corner of my eye I catch another barrage of nice amber sparks as yet another cigarette hits the frame of my car door where I have the window open probably about 3 inches to catch some morning air. The lit cigarette proceeds to bounce off the frame and into my lap, then onto the floor of my car.

Gee, thanks. GET AN ASH TRAY ASH-HOLES! And use it too.

You have no valid complaint if you didnt write down the plate and report them for littering.

Nice backwards logic you have there in fantasy land. Enjoy your stay on Earth.

People who complain to be heard are a dime a dozen... People who take measures to confront & solve their complaints are the salt of the earth.

How do you propose I solve my current problem? Your ignorance.

Sorry, I was a little too busy trying not to get burned myself, making sure my car didn't catch on fire, and trying not to get into a car accident at 70mph on the highway while ensuring the aforementioned two items didn't happen. Grabbing a pen and a piece of paper and determining exactly which car in front of me it came from wasn't exactly high on my priority list at that moment.

I rarely meet smokers who have any regard for others, especially with second hand smoke. It's really amazing to see the power of money working everyday to allow people to kill themselves with cancer sticks....good job FDA, good job.

I have no problem with tobacco, or nicotine....it's the extra ****** that is KNOWN poison that I have a problem with.

solution, roll your own: get a long fix, save a boat load w/o switching to geico.

Good post OP...I HATE THIS

People around here do it all too often, and i ride a motorcycle. Even in full gear, its not fun to see a burning stick come flying at you...

Who the eff gave smokers a free litter pass?

I just noticed the other day while driving down the road the number of butts on that gather along those concrete medians. A truck was driving a little too close to one and was causing the wind to form a cyclone of these disgusting things. All of them of course pummelling my car :(

When you are behind a car it's really hard to tell which car discarded a cigarette because they can bounce around. The whole situation is absurd... people are driving down the highway at 75mph with their window open wasting untold amounts of gas due to additional drag, tossing land mine-like cigs out their window, and when you happen to meet one of these socially inept fools they use the excuse, "I don't want my car to smell like smoke, so I don't use an ashtray".

A few years ago someone in front of me tossed a cigarette butt out their window. It flew into my car through the sunroof. I was pissed. I caught up alongside the car, and threw a socket out the window, hitting the passenger side window. I'd say that makes us even.

Who wants to calculate the odd that a discarded cigarette landed in another car through an open window when said cars travel 70 mph.

You know what would solve that problem? If someone designed an ash tray that goes INSIDE your car. Hold up, I gotta go patent that idea.

Damn, someone beat me to it.

My problem is that if you actually reported the butt dumper to the cops (license/make/model...etc) the cops would do exactly NOTHING about it. In fact, I bet you would make their morning (if not their week) by giving them something to laugh about. I only know ONE person in my entire life that has been fined for littering and he dumped a broken WASHING MACHINE in some field and only got fined $50 (and he had to pay the city to dispose of it).

Some cities in Ohio recently doubled the fine for littering and spent all kinds of money updated 'no littering' signs. I say "WHOOP-DE-DOO". If you aren't going to enforce a law, WHO THE FVCK CARES!?!?

With that being said, I am not (nor have I ever been) a smoker. I also cannot stand people who 'dump their butts' either one at a time or the whole damn ashtray at a stop sign. I think it's an absolutely disgusting habit.

Oh yeah.....I forgot this example:

Many public places are either Non-Smoking only or are phasing it out in Ohio. I FVCKING hate it when these dumbasses think its OK to crowd around the entrance smoking like it's their last damn minute on earth while creating a WALL of smoke that everyone else has to WALK THROUGH in order to get into a NON-SMOKING establishment. Absolutely stupid. I always walk by and say 'thank you for not smoking'.

/end rant

ok how has this happened to multiple people i have never seen this happen in my entire life. Are people flicking their cigarette straight up in the air as they drive? I know i flick mine at the ground as i drive and there it stays not magically flying around into peoples cars.

You're an idiot. They bounce when slowing from 70Mph unless you have some kind of shoalin monk skill that allows you to put a spin on it so it lands at a dead stop.

And yeah, some people do this dumb holding-it-at-roof-level release thing, too.

It's strange, because all the smokers i know are extremely considerate people who don't smoke indoors, always use ashtrays, and don't smoke around people who don't like it. As they all should be.

I've been on both ends of this.

One time I was with my dad and he had the top down on the car. The guy in front of us threw his cig butt out and it landed in his car. Now bear in mind my Dad is fanatic about keeping his cars clean and he's also an old Force Recon Marine who did three tours in Vietnam. Long story short my Dad hand delivered the cig butt to the guy and said if he stepped foot out of the car he'd make the guy eat it. Needless to say the guy kept his mouth shut and stayed in the car. I was glad it didn't come down to a fight but telling my Dad not to do that when the adrenaline kicks in is like telling a bull to stop charging mid stream. I tell him he may be a big dude but one day he's gonna meet some idiot with a gun if he keeps it up.

As for me, I quit smoking three years back and I will admit I threw butts out the window BUT I NEVER did it if a car was anywhere near behind or even beside me. I also was always mindful of doing it only around asphalt and never near brush or grass.

i know I know, littering is littering, but I quit!

I don't know any smokers who are stupid enough to do that here, bushfires aren't fun for anyone :p

Hey Dug, do you recall seeing on the News back at the start of the year, the massive Bushfires around Junee which killed 3 people...that was started by a ciggy butt...we could see the flames from where I lived 60 kays away...that was a huge fire

How could you possibly know that?

Yep, that's exactly right. And you know what, I will continue to do just that, because I know it pisses you off.

Hmm, maybe they found the source of the fire, and it turned out to be ciggy butts...maybe, that's just me guessing ;) I don't know how they go in the US, but they usually work out what started many major bushfires here...
