Hi folks,
As promised, I wanted to give my thoughts on my 244T.
I ordered it in silver. A minimal bezel with setup buttons on the bottom right. Pretty standard stuff for 24" monitors. Good height adjust
ne thing to keep in mind. The panel will NOT lower all the way down to the base. It's lowest position has the botton of the bezel about 5 inches above the base. That could affect some folks from a head-on viewing perspective.
BUSINESS USE:
spreadsheets, email, network design software to create schematics, etc. Just simply wonderful. I can finally put an 11x17 Visio network design at 100% viewing and see the entire network without moving left and right! It's great to have dual full size web pages side by side, as well as a design excel spreadsheet and the corresponding Visio design diagram together at the same time. Even if you don't get a 244T, you simply have to get a 24" widescreen just for the screen real estate.
When using the DVI input, text and color are the best I have ever seen, and that's coming from a Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2070 22" CRT which has a great rep. for color reproduction.
I calibrated the panel with my SpyderPro and the software gamma and color controls with this panel make it easy to get a great WYSIWYG for color printing of my digital photographs.
CRITICISM: At this price, this unit should come with dual DVI inputs.
GAMING: Ah the main event, the primary reason I bought this monitor. I have been playing COD2 and HL2(with a widescreen patch) in wonderful 1920x1200 glory for several days. I am running both games will full on everything from a graphics perspective, and I can report there is absolutely no light leakage, tearing, ghosting or anything else to disrupt the experience. I have played both games during maps with a hellacious amount of graphic activity going on, and it's just like I'm in the middle of the action. The colors in HL2 really POP, something I did not experience on my CRT. Absolutely no criticism of this panel for FPS gaming. It's simply the best video gaming experience I have ever seen.
There is always a lot of talk about pixel response times and how there is no universal standard(which is odd to me as I would think that timing G2G pixel transition would be a pretty standard measurement). This one is rated at 6ms. I have no clue if it's true or not. I can tell you that during the most intense FPS gaming situations, there is no ghosting or perceptible "lag" that I can detect.
I paid $1399 for this monitor at TigerDirect. The lowest price I could find, while ensuring I was purchasing from a reputable dealer. It's expensive. about $550 more than the Dell 2405, but it was more than worth it to me. There a many folks sending back Dells with LCD leakage and high pitched whining problems, plus the 244T is a next gen. panel, whereas the 2405 is about to be replaced.
Since I want to run this panel for about 5 years, I wanted to most up to date technology available. I understand that in some cases, budgets are budgets and $550 is a lot if you are budgeting for a 2405.
I was so close to getting the Dell due to the price. I just could not chance having to deal with Dell tech. support for at least one, and maybe two or three replacements if I got a bad one.
It's a keeper!!
