I got my first paycheck from my new job. Huge relief after being between jobs for a month, moving costs, buying a new house and prepping my old house for sale

I hate moving so much lol. I've been at my current place since COVID, but we want to move to a place with some actual space (rental banned outdoor meat smokers :sob: ).

This was definitely the most stressful move I've had yet. But i suppose that's what happens when you have 2 people and 2 dogs in a serviceable but underequipped hotel room for a month lol. Things are better now (just need the weather to not be so cold!)

A few years ago, I ended up getting stuck in an extended stay hotel for like 6 MONTHS due to a moving delay lol. While it was super annoying, it was also pretty cool because:

1. Free breakfast every day
2. They make your bed & clean your room daily
3. Built-in gym & pool!

If I ever got a huge financial windfall:

1. Move into a nice extended-stay hotel
2. Rent a different car for however long I feel like
3. Doordash every meal lol

Zero chores & complete free time to do whatever you wanted! I could hit 100k posts!! hahaha

That does sound kinda fun, but I think it would get boring after a while, as you don't really own much at that point or have much room for hobbies. But assuming money is no object and you still have a house and everything it could be fun to do as a mini vacation. Book a fancy hotel in middle of NYC or Toronto or something for a month and just take advantage of all the perks like room service, breakfast, pool, gym, take cabs to random places etc. Basically don't have anywhere to be at for a certain time and just do whatever.

When I first moved to Austin from CA, the company putted us into one of the extended stay hotel for two months. They even arranged apartment rentals and moving, shipped both cars and furniture, to Austin.

Yep, it was nice to have free meals and room services.

Replaced a hulking Brother MFP laser with a nice sleek Epson ET-15000 printer. I put the Brother out on the side of the road (I live in a rural area) about an hour ago with a "Free!" sign and it's already gone. w00t

I woke up alive, and no longer have a mortgage. Paid off my place Thursday.
Had a 30 year loan, paid it off at just less than 7 years.
I bought a new cross cut paper shredder to shred a lot of old paperwork! LOL

What happens when you pay it off do they send you anything official stating it's paid off or some kind of congratulations letter? I almost feel like that would be worth framing lol.

I'm on track to pay mine in a year from now, that's going to be nice.

My mortgage holder returned the promissory note with a paid in full letter. They also filed a release with the county recorder.

Checked the mouse traps in my attic and there was still peanut butter on them, only two did not have any, but I honestly don't remember the last time I checked so it could be before my roof got redone.

I'm thinking maybe the mouse problem is solved now. Been hearing suspicious noises in the ceiling though, but it's also subtle enough that it could just be shifting from the cold. I'm thinking if I still had mice at very least all the peanut butter would be gone by now.

I had tried the humane way before but nowhere to really release them, they'll just freeze to death or end up back in the house anyway. So I have some pretty snarly setup with a bunch of snap traps lined up with dry contacts that get set off if trap snaps. If they go off it triggers an alarm on my home monitoring system. And yeah I need to update that software. Been meaning to completely revamp it, this one is fairly primitive. The one that is set is a broken contact point. I thought I had fixed it but guess it's still not making contact.

Switched my status on LinkedIn to "open to work" around 7pm tonight and had a recruiter out of Bakersfield reach out about 45 minutes later. Going to setup a meet and greet tomorrow.

Bought into yet another card break for the Browns to celebrate me being laid off and scored big. Probably about $500 in value or a bit more.

Got my el cheapo bending brake to be mostly useable with some screw-down C clamps and anti-slide stickers. I'd really like to drill holes in it to bolt the bending plate down, but that's a whole lot of thick metal even for my drill press.
