Made the perfect batch of popcorn tonight. The majority of the pops were a light tan, just the way I like them. By conventional standards, they were overdone, but I think that's when they taste best. It's hard to get them just right, cause once they hit tan, you're on the edge of disaster where they start to burn, and burnt popcorn's the worst. I usually chicken out and stop it short for insurance, but I pushed it a little, and nailed it :^)

There's this fly that has been in my truck for over a month driving me insane, it will always start flying in front of my face when I'm driving or go on my legs etc and I've been unable to get rid of it and it's just so annoying.

Well today I FINALLY got it. As I pulled in my driveway it reared it's ugly ass in front of my face and since I was not actually driving anymore I was able to hit it good with the electric fly swatter. The POS didn't even die from it, it just knocked it out, and I'm glad I checked. Picked it up and saw that it was still alive so ripped both wings off and left it that way. It won't be flying in front of my face anymore while I drive. Simply killing it would have been too easy of a way out for it.

It's not a done deal yet but Union Pacific is in negotiations with Norfolk Southern to send the Big Boy locomotive on a trans-continental excursion next year. It would be the first time a Big Boy engine has been east since they left the Schenectady, NY factory in 1941. They have to figure out if the NS rail system can handle the 1.2 million pound engine.

FedEx delivered my suitcase today! The last time I saw it was 25 days ago at O'Hare Airport when I set it on the conveyor belt at the Iberia ticket counter. I'm so happy to get it back.

It even came with a nice note from the TSA which was not there when I checked it.

Thought this was going to wind up in the first world problems thread, but happy to be in this one instead. Car died yesterday. 2012 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. I just knew it would wind up to be that thousands of dollars high voltage battery. Turned out to be just the underhood battery which was original equipment and certainly owed us nothing after 13 years. Dodged a bullet there and never been so happy to pay an auto repair shop bill.

My car insurance premium dropped 20% for this 6 month period.
Last was 322 and this time its 257.

Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I hate than damn Gekko, but every major insurance company puts out
stupid commercials, Allstate, State Farm, Progressive, Liberty mutual off the top of my head.

So no matter what I choose, its going to be affiliated with low-brow commercials.

Car insurance for my dad was $1630 in NYC (25% increase over last year) and he barely drives (less than 500 mph a year).

And it's bundled with his home insurance.. so we should be getting a discount but that went up too.

That's Hartford and he's used that insurance for like 40 years.. might have to switch it up!

That's $3.26/mi for insurance only. It would be like paying me $13/hr just to walk instead of driving. Probably $15+ with fuel and maintenance.

How old is he?
Is he getting a discount for driving low miles?
I get one for driving less that 5,000/yr.

I also have a discount for bundling with my condo insurance, which actually went up this year.

I did NOT slice open my arm while using a fat, stubby but very sharp knife to open a package.

I don't mean to imply that such things occur on any sort of repeating basis, just that these are the sorts of things I need to consider . . . consciously.
