IDK if it's a good thing, definitely not bad, but just had a chat with my City Manager. He told me the majority of the City Council is advocating (and flat out assuming) for me to take over his position when he retires at the end of the year. He only said majority because he hasn't talked with the rest of the council, but he believes they'd be in favor also. He's mentioned to them they need to speak to me before they make any assumptions.
I'm definitely interested in the position, but I've only been director for about 1.5 years and if I leave this position, it's going to be extremely difficult to fill, primarily because the pay is low for the title (it's actually really good for where I live, just low in general for the position) and I know I'd end up having to work both positions for a good while. Plus there things I'm working on I'd like to see implemented but they're going to take a long time to put in place.
Anyways, I'm leaning on sticking it out in this position for a few more years and seeing what happens.
