Even though it hurt financially, glad to hear you went through the trouble. Guy who had his bike stolen must be ecstatic. Hope you get your money back and they catch the thief.

I thought if you bought a stolen item in good faith, the original owner has no recourse unless they can prove it was a unique item (painting of mona lisa)

Am I completely wrong?

yes. Possession of stolen property is illegal. The owner always has recourse to recover their property.

Kudos to you for doing the right thing, it sure hurts to loose $$$. I would do the same thing without having second thoughts. :thumbsup:

Read the update. I'm not really surprised at the turn of events...but at least they've got the guy in custody...for now.
