Hey all, know this is a bit off topic, but I figured everyone here is likely to be pretty experienced with the whole return runaround.

Here's the lowdown - Bought a NEC AccuSync 120 21" from Tigerdirect for $299 (plus $55 shipping). Thought that was a pretty hot deal, even for a lower end 21 incher refurb. Got it a couple of weeks ago, all is good until a couple of days ago, when the monitor starts getting a green tint and bluring. Needless to say, it's going back.

Now the problem. Tigerdirect makes you call the maker first, to get some sort of return authorization. When I talked to NEC they seemed fine about replacing it, but they would not pick up on the postage. Same deal with Tiger. This wouldn't be so bad if we were talking about a CPU or something, but this monitor weighs over 70 pounds!

The basic question is, has anyone out there had to deal with either of those companies in terms of returns, and what was the outcome in terms of return shipping. I guess I've been pretty lucky, as I've ordered from about a dozen different places online in the past couple of months, all with zero problems. Just sucks to get stuck with a 70 pound dud.

This is not a Hot Deal, ergo you CAN NOT post it in the Hot Deals forum, especially when we, the mighty and benificent Mods, have gone to the trouble of supplying special Mod sponsored threads for just such questions and complaints.

Use them, we won't be asking you again.

When I had to return my Mag monitor due to a manuf. defect, I had to pay $45 in shipping. I had to do this twice since the replacement I got was also defective. I went with UPS and they require some sort of foam packing which I don't have (I only had the original box & styrofoam holders, but USP wouldn't accept that). So I ended up paying another $10 for them to pour some foam to fill the entire box. What a pain in the rear end. I'll never buy another MAG monitor again.

hmmm....does this mean that we should restrict our purchase of a monitor (or anything that weighs alot) to a b+m store to avoid costly shipping for a defective item?

Guess so... got my last monitor refurb shipped about 2 years ago, still running strong. Just put together a system of almost all refurbs, no prob. Oh well, still a nice monitor, guess it's worth the extra 50 bucks.

Welcome to the largest risk of buying a monitor non-local. I do it, but understand the risks, it sucks when you're in your spot though.

You're going to have to pay for shipping, unfortunately.

I bought a NEC monitor for my friend before from Egghead and it was so blurry when I first try it. I called Egghead and they said I need to call NEC first to see if they can help me to fix it. I lied to them that I already called and said it needs to be replaced. Finally, I returned it and they paid for the shipping.

Yeah, heard Tiger isn't the best. Bought a GeForce 2 200MX from them a couple of months ago and they sent me the 400mx, same price, so I'm not complaining. Personally never had any problems with them in the last 2 years or so of dealing with them every so often.

Yep that's the price you pay buying any monitor online, most stores make you pay the return shipping cost so it's not just a TigerDirect policy. In turn they pay the shipping to send it back to you. So sorry but there's not much you can do except to eat the cost.

I guess I've been lucky. This Samsung 700IFT and my IIyama 406 came in one piece with no noticable problems so far (a few months each). Beside the IIyama weighs nothing for a 17". The only problem is there is no computer store near me.

never dealt with tigerdirect.. but have returned a few things from ubid (one was a bad scooter and another was a incorrect item). their website says for returns, that the customer pays for shipping to send it back. but on both occasions ive had to deal with returns, they've sent me a postage paid mailing label. i guess you just have to be persistant about it.. how long have you had it? if it wasnt too long, i would have just told them that i was busy and didnt have time til now to take a look at it, and noticed it was defective. maybe talking to a supervisor would help?

i guess it depends on whether or not a company wants to keep customers happy also. i bought a monitor from buy.com, got one that was physically defective, sent it back (they paid), got another that i thought was defective b/c i didnt know that Apeture grille had the two lines going across and set it back again (the paid again to ship it). finally, 3rd one i wised up. now that's customer service for ya..

anyways, good luck in getting them to pay the return shipping. hope it goes well for ya. :)

I got burned by tiger direct along time ago. Their sale rep gave me incorrect information about a video card by stating it supported video in a window whwn it didn't. When I tried to return it they would only give me an exchange, not a refund. They didn't have what I needed so I had to buy something else just to get my money back. I've been throwing their sale flyers in the trash for five years

May not be what you want to hear.

Customer pays return shipping on warranty repairs.

Usually most places will pick up the return shipping on defective "new" products. How long this period lasts is
anyone's guess.

Kind of hard to stay in business if you take any and all returns from customers during the length of the warranty.
I sell a product to you and the manufacturer is responsible for any defective units. Since there are occasional out of
box problems I can risk that with perhaps a 30 day return privledge. After that it's between you and the
manufacturer.

Let this be a warning not to buy very heavy items mail order.

Not only that but it may be some time before you even get your monitor back again. Technically there is not time
limit on how long they have to turn any repairs around.

Next time factor extra shipping in to your price when you purchase heavy items.

Good luck to you.
