Bought a compound microscope and some slides, but it's a real piece of shit. So I finally get an RMA code and this is in the email:

Please follow the steps below for return:

1) pack the product back as EXACTLY AS IT WAS RECEIVED;

2) include your Inv# in the package;

3) include a note to describe the problems with the product;

4) include the reasons for the return;

5) include a copy of the email;

6) ship the package with full insurance to

RMA will be invalid if you didn?t ship the item within 3 days of receiving the RMA no. Please do not write anything in the packaging material. Please pack very well and make sure to screw the objectives to the cover to avoid shipping damage.

Return Policy:
Amscope has a 7-Day Return Policy. You have seven days from receipt of your purchase to test the item. If you are not satisfied with the product, please return it within the seven days in its original box and packing. We will refund your entire purchase price, less our actual original shipping costs. You must email us with a written request for a return material authorization number (RMA#). You need to include in this email your eBay item number, a detailed note on the reason(s) for the return, and the date of purchase. Once you receive an RMA# from our offices, you may return the item. Without an RMA# your item will be returned to sender COD. Once the product is received at our facilities, it will be processed by our Returns & Exchanges department. It must be received back in the same, NEW condition with all original packing material and accessories that it was originally shipped in order to receive a full refund less shipping and handling cost. If this is not the case, a re-stocking fee will be assessed. Customers are responsible for all return shipping fees.

Full insurance? It wasn't insured when it was shipped to me.
Copy of the email, print it yourself.
Ebay item number? If I had a CLUE this was an Ebay store I wouldn't have purchased from them.

I really think they are going to try and hit me up for extra charges when they get this thing back. See you on Judge Judy fookers!

Total BS. (Had the microscope for a day before I started asking for an RMA, objective lenses above 10x would hit the slides when rotated...nice.) Off to UPS...

EDIT: The Scope

Insurance is to protect the shipper, which is you. If you shipped it and they say they never got it or it came in damaged would you believe them?

parts-pc.com sent me a totally wrong memory module.

It was shipped to me in an envelope with merely stamps.

To get a refund I had to ship it back via trackable carrier, in a box....they still are selling PC100 memory as LOW DENSITY when it's really HIGH DENSITY PC133 memory with a new label they slapped on.

EDIT: The Scope

Did you try adjusting the slide plate? The little round adjusting thing-a-ba-bobs nearer the base of the microscope?

Even with a cheap ass $30 microscope from Hobby Lobby doesn't have this problem if used correctly...

maybe microscope technology has changed but even expensive scopes in my day could send the lens into a slide on higher power.

Hence you always adjusted back not down.

I haven't bought a microscope in 15 years or more though.

The whole idea is to get your "subject" into focus with the lowest magnification using the coarse focus knob. After that you rotate the objective lenses so that your "subject" is still in view, and from here on out you only use fine focus. (Or you will hear that familiar "plink" which means you just pushed the lens through the slide.)

I got the scope sent out today so we will see what happens.

EDIT: Oh, and I loved their response when I asked what would happen if I tried to use a well slide which is even thicker.

A: You don't need to use a well slide for this microscope. :confused:

This is a pretty lame complaint thread. Asking you to insure the package, print the e-mail and include the auction number are not unreasonable requests. :confused:

I don't see how you think they're trying to scam you.

If the insurance is for me, why does it need to be insured? So they can say I broke it and then sell it again?
Why print out the email if they sent it to me? Don't they already have a copy??
Auction number???? I bought it from, what I thought was a b/m store, now I find out they are an ebay store. I have no auction number.

The tone of their previous letters leads me to believe they are not likely to refund my entire purchase amount. It took three days to even get an RMA number when it says all over their site "If not completely satisfied..." etc, etc, etc.

Only time will tell.

/404 error/ no scam found.

The directions are for your own good. Not theirs. As in, follow or not, at your own risk.

Those are probably just canned emails they send out for all RMA's. The purpose for you to put the email in there is so they know have the correct information and know what they are supposed to be doing with the package.

So you can't bitch and moan if it gets lost on its way to them.

Who cares? How hard is it for you to print an e-mail? Obviously they can process the return more easily if the e-mail is readily available.

Clearly that section does not apply to you.

Complain about that when it happens. Until then you're just being a whiny bitch.

http://www.amscope.com/

I'm not being a whiny bitch, I just don't really appreciate having to spend almost $50 to ship it to me, and then back. The microscope and slides were both a joke.

I guess it's my fault for expecting decent in the $300 price range.

P.S. Canned email or not, its rude. (where's the mini fiddle icon?)

Like I said I haven't bought a microscope in a while, but the ones I have used you could push the lens through the slide even on the fine adjuster.

I am feeling like I should jump off a bridge if they are going to second guess the user on a microscope and limit it's focal range without a ton of technology.

What if you didn't but a slide cover on...do they stop your adjustment there? What if your slide covers are thinner? Thicker?
