I had no idea that they were rare. I saw a Sega Branded 4x somewhere in my travels, the only bad thing was that it was 29.99 new. At the time, I thought that I could find cheaper memory, and I eventually did. So how much are these things worth?

If one already has 4 VMUs and they meet your need, I don't see why you would need another one. However, for some, myself included, a 4X VMU is a matter of convenience -- i.e. not having to swap VMUs for different games. As far as the number of VMUs needed, it's definitely going to depend on the type of games you play. Sports games, like NFL2K1, almost require the entire storage space of a VMU (for season play) whereas a fighting game, like Soul Calibur, probably wouldn't require much more than 10 blocks of memory.

The Sega 4X card if available usually sells for about $20 used and $30 new but it's very hard to find... i think i'm just going to go ahead and get the Nexus from Level 6 - it's $21 + shipping - the regular 4X is $15 + shipping

I'm tempted to pay the $29.95 for the 16X version but that's just insane...

Anyone know how good is an Enforcer Joystick (with built-in rumble pack)? It's selling for $9.99 at Fry's.
They also had world series 2K2 for $9.99 (a ton of them) for $9.99.

Wow that's awesome - I almost got two today but my stupid @$$ stayed out too late and missed the auction (link) They went for $30 shipped for both!

I got WS2K2 today and it looks pretty good - takes a while to get the batting down...

What games, if any require a special boot disc to play? I'm not talking about warez here, but actual import games like Shenmue 2. Does Shenmue 2 require a boot disc? How about Marvel vs Capcom 2 or TXR2?

About the Interact light gun. I had heard that it's junk, but at $11.99, that's not bad. Much better than $20 at EB games for the same gun.

You can still get a Dreamcast at Babbage's, and games and accessories (Mad Katz guns, sega controllers, etc). I got mine for $59.

I have a burned copy of Shenmue 2 (european version) and it doesn't need a boot disk. Past that, I don't know.

MvC2 depends on the burned copy you get. Some need boot disks, some don't. The Utopia Boot Disk v1.1 works for most burned games.

No.. No.. I'm not talking about burned games at all here. I'm talking about store bought imports like Shenmue 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, TXR2, etc... Any of these games that were imported.. I'm not even sure what was an import and what was just a limited release at this point. I'm pretty sure that TXR2 and MvC2 were a US release, but I don't think Shenmue 2 is?

A friend of mine got a US Shenmue 2 at FYE's just last month. He told me that it came with a boot disk.

As for imports from Japan or Europe, you'll need to buy a program called DC-X to play them

If you're planning on playing with a VGA box, the Utopia disc doesn't work. Just a word of warning so others aren't tortured, helpless to do anything but sit and look at their new Shenmue 2 in its ornate packaging, waiting for the day when his DC-X disc shows up in the mail. The agony, AGONY!

As sais somewhere in this thread before, Shenmue 2 is a euro import, and if you buy it retail from EB (they sell it for $50 or something) it comes with everything you need to play it, ( ie. a boot disc). The ripped release will probably not requre a boot disc, it'll be a self boot, but if you want to download it, you'd need cable....its like a 4 disc game.

Not only is Utopia illegal but it is a lowbrow hack job made a while back from some coders. Basically they stole a bunch of copywritten code and used it to play burnt games & imports. Of course, working like that makes the final application far from flawless. Its ability to play imports is a cheap cover for its illegal purposes.

I thought this was a good deal...

Best Buy has an InterAct "Starter Kit for Dreamcast" which contains an AstroPad controller, a TremorPack, and a Memory Card for $19.99. Considering the Sega controllers there are $14.99, the Jump packs are $14.99, and the VMUs are $9.99, this seemed like a deal to me.

Now the good part... When I got home and tried the memory unit, it seems to be a 2x unit! There is a button on the top and two LEDs in the viewing area. So with the same amount of memory as 2 VMUs, this deal seemed to be great.

The bad part is that the AstroPad isn't great. However, if you have 1 or 2 good controllers, then this is fine for a spare. Heck, it is essentially free once you consider the price of the memory and tremor pack!

Anyone have any opinions on the interact/performance 2x memory unit, or the tremor pack?

There is a "version 1.2" of the disc floating around that has VGA enabled.
