<< With the DC games, I have heard that there is a program (can't remember the name) that puts all of the data towards the outside of the disc, so the laser assembly doesn't have to work as hard to read the disc. >>

Yes, such a program exists. It's also commonly called "padding" a disc, adding some amount of junk data to move the good DC data to other portions of the disc so the DC doesn't have to work as hard. A lot of the recently released games by echelon (spelling?) are padded like this.

Buy one regular Sega VMU with the screen ($10) for the neato graphics/minigames and one Sega 4x VMU ($30) for actual storage and you're set.

Ya.. you really need those 4x cards. Especially if you have bleemcast games. The 4x cards are very, very hard to find.

Can someone tell me what the broadband adapters are used for (why they're soo wanted)? Is there a mod to allow you to play the sports games? anything to let you play w/o going through their pay network?

As far as I know, the broadband adapter only works for Q3. It was supposed to work for PSO, and all the Sega Sports titles, but does not (Although there was a way to get it to work with PSO as I remember- exact details of everything are not 100% since it's been such a long time). Not sure why it's in such demand since it's only used for 1 game (Maybe it works with Bomberman).

Dreamcast console prices ARE going back up. I just sold a lightly used one for $75 on eBay...this was a second unit I impulsively bought before the holidays because the prices were so cheap ($49). Should have bought a few more!

Yikes! Maybe someday someone will write a DC emulator, and I won't have to worry about replacing an expensive dead console. :)

I looked around a few places, and Gamestop.com has used DC's for $59.99. Any other online locations with cheaper prices?

<< I bet you probably can get $100 for a new DC. >>

:D <contemplates the price for a moment.>

i have a NIB Dreamcast + 4 games in shrink wrap, 2 of those emulators with LCDs NIB, and 2 extra controllers NIB.

all of it is Sega branded.

any idea how much that would fetch?

Dude.. I'd change your post before the mods get on your as#. I asked for a "price check" one time and got repremanded for it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking a question like that here. I think the mods just don't want people listing stuff in FS/FT and asking people how much it's worth instead of posting a price.

Anyway, I found what I consider a hot deal on Sega brand DC controllers. I've been looking everywhere for 2 extra ones to complete my set and i went into a Coconut's music store near here. They had a few DC games and about 8 new in box sega brand controllers for 9.99 marked down from 14.99, so i picked up 2 for $20!

Why the BBA (broad band adapter) is so expensive:
It orginally sold for $60, and was only availible from sega.com (no retailers carried it).
Sega.com sold out of it twice! First time I think in less than two days, the second in like a week.
This makes it fairly rare. I pretty sure sega limited how many you could buy as well, meaning no one got to 'stock up' on them.
And lastly thier usefullness.

What it's usefull for:
For official stuff, not much, only POD, Quake 3, Planetweb browser 3.0, and another DC game I can't remember the name of used it.

Now for unofficial (i.e. homebrew) stuff it becomes fairly usefull.
Linux and NetBSD for Dreamcast can mount NSF volumes using it, and pretty much everything else those two OSes can do with a regular NIC. (Someone once setup a web server on NetBSD, and hosted a small site from thier Dreamcast)

If you want to program for the Dreamcast, its very fast in uploading programs for testing. Without a BBA you either have to burn a CDR everytime you want to test your program, or use a coder's cable (serial link to PC) to transfer it at a pokey 115Kbps. If you do alot of testing, the time saved by uploading things at 100Mbps is well worth $100. I bought mine when they first came out at $60 (within an hour of the launch) for this purpose.

And you can copy games using this, much faster than the coder's cable 115Kbps speed.

Oh yeah, most games aren't 'ripped down' (ie removing intros, music, etc), most games will fit on a 700MB CDR without troubles. A GD can hold 1 gig of data, but most of the time they don't. Only few games (mostly multi-disc games) use a full 1 GB per disc, and for the 'backup' versions they figured out a way to use real-time decompression for it to fit on a regular 700MB CDR.

Someone asked about a Dreamcast Hacking BBS, go to DC Emulation's forums. Go to the 'Hardware Modification' for hardware stuff (fixing/moding/tech details). Other forums for different software side stuff (ie programming, burning DC emulators). Pretty everything but piracy is availible on thier boards (posts get locked for piracy/warez/how to copy games/etc.)

I wouldn't post something like that on the FS/FT or even the deals forums. I had posted it on the Off Topic forums and got repremanded for it.

Yeah.. I saw that Rayman two was $11.99 at EB Games.. Too bad I already paid $18.96 for it at CC over the holidays. You win some, you lose some..

I have never seen a 4x Sega branded memory card. Are you sure it's Sega branded and not Interact or Madcatz? Funcoland is rediculous on pricing and their return policy stinks. I just found out the hard way that their return/exchange policy is only 7 days. With their prices and lousy return policy, how do they stay in business?

Don't forget my fave online game: Unreal Tournament. Love smashing punks at cable modem speeds. Too much fun!

I'm looking for Soul Calibur. I've heard so many good things about the game that I finally decided to get it. Has anyone seen any good deals on it recently?

They exist but are very rare... I have only seen one on eBay twice (lost one of the auctions by a frickin 47 cents!) They have their share of troubles too - in compatability with certain older games, but are supposedly more stable than the interact/madcatz/pelican/nexus cards... I might go ahead and buy the Nexus 4X w/ cable... anyone have one of those? How is it?

Soul Calibur is hard to find now, EBGames has preowned for $24.99. Most places are out of stock or backordered. :(

The Nexus 4x is probably the second best 4x memory card you're going to find. I'd go with that instead of hunting down the 4x Sega card because of the neato cable feature.

The Nexus card w/ PC link is great, I used to it hack my Shenmue US save into EURO so that it would be recognized by Shenmue2
