I say we draft out all these religious nut jobs... Esp, the christains they always want to fight something or someone... Send em all to Iraq... If nothing better we can use them for human shields...

Instead of giving them guns, show them videos you know the ones that faith based groups put together about how god will always protect them. Send them all out with bibles and tell them the ones that got shot are not worthy and their faith is lacking... God will protect you... Just run out there with bible in hand... Now what will this solve? Well, as they are running around getting shot at our military will know where the shots are coming from!

Now, we won't need a draft and it's a win win situation for everyone! Problem solved!!!! :)

Instead of giving them guns, show them videos you know the ones that faith based groups put together about how Allah will always protect them. Send them all out with Korans and tell them the ones that got shot are not worthy and their faith is lacking... Allah will protect you... Just run out there with Koran in hand... Now what will this solve? Well, as they are running around getting shot at our military will know where the shots are coming from!

Edited to clarify your idiocy.

I am against the draft.
People who do what they do because they want to, generally speaking are more successful at it. When people are forced to participate in something they do not wish to do, there is dissent, low morale, and poor job performance.

That said, if the numbers of armed forces members suddenly started to decline, to the detriment of our country, the government would be right to invoke whatever power was necessary to bring the security level up to par.

Since Mar/03 or even before we've been hearing fear mongering like this. There is no reason at all to think the draft will happen. It would be political suicide. The republicans have already started sawing at their wrists with this war anyway so to push for a draft (since no democrat would touch it with your 10 foot pole) would be akin to asking a buddy to help hack at their neck at the same time and chase some pills for good measure. It's really quite pointless to debate, actually. It will not happen in this climate, no chance.

I do think we should have a draft for failing kids--high school drops outs and juvie kids. They could be smartened up, although the PCers would come in saying how we're just drafting in the poor or minorities, blah blah blah.

The irony is that many of those troubled kids have a better chance of surviving the streets of downtown Baghdad than they do surviving on the streets of Anywhere, USA.

It's been too long since we had judges who forced troubled youth to choose between jail and the Army!

Now, that said, I dont want an Army of misfits either; so, it's a catch 22. But certainly some of them could be rehabbed while the worst offenders are put back in jail...

I dunno.. I'm just kinda rambling at this point. I really have no idea what impact a draft with have on our forces... All I do know is that many young people today need to be taught some respect and discipline. Too many of them are whiny, selfish, spoiled punks...

Well, I think if the Army drafted me I might just turn out to be a whiny, selfish, spoiled punk, asshole-bully. Oh wait!

restoring the draft would be the quickest way to end the war.

most people don't really care that much as long as they and their families aren't the ones being shipped off... it's why the anti-war movement today is nothing like it was in the 60's (well, that and the acid)

I do not smoke pot or take any other drugs but coffee. What is it about you that makes you able to make such a claim about me without any evidence or knowledge. Could it be something simple, like you're an idiot?

"Morale wrecking" 15 month deployments? We were told months ago it would be 15 months and our moral is far from wrecked, thank you very much.

As for a draft, I think it would be good for America, bad for the Army. As a Platoon Leader, I don't want anyone in my Platoon who didn't volunteer to be there. I've found pretty much everyone I know who is in the Army is against the draft for the above reason.

However, I think it might be good for America. It would teach many people important things about themselves, dicipline, and responsibility. It would involve them more closely in the political process and foreign policy of this country as these things would affect them personally.

I would shoot my son in both his feet if he were called up in a draft. If I got jailed for that, then so be it.

If my CHOSE to join the armed forces, then it would be something I would have to respect. But this is a kid who watches hours upon hours of Animal Planet and tells me he hates martial arts (which I do make him take) because he doesn't like fighting. This is just who he is. He has a peaceful temperment. He'd make a good fireman... he likes to save people, not fight them.

A draft doesn't take into account the psychological makeup up the people who get caught in it. Fighters should fight. Non-fighters should be allowed to study biology, or whatever else they might like tthat will contribute to society. :)

I agree with you on your first point. I have respect for people who choose the Armed Forces.

However, those of us who DO understand discipline, responsibility, and being involved in the political process shouldn't have to pay the price. We can be teachers, firefighters, doctors... no one should be forced to join the armed forces, especially if they already have shown a desire to be an informed and useful member of society.

I was just talking with some friends at the marine base here in NC.
I'm located right between fort bragg, camp lejeune and cherry point so I hear alot of talk about iraq.
One of them said if things keep going the way they are some ticked off father who loses a son, is likely going to kill bush and cheney . And the thing is if it did happen , I'm wondering if the public would have a hard time condeming the shooter.

I think a draft would defenitely be something to push people over the limit.
