I tried to change the default icon of a folder and, finding no other ways, I tried to do it via Tools>Folder Options>File Types. Well, I managed to change it for File Folder, but it didn't display differently. That's alright with me, I could live without it. But, I then went to navigate to the folder where the icon was, and, when I double click on the folder, instead of opening in the same window, it opened a command prompt there. It can because I've downloaded that powertoy, but it shouldn't do it on double-click! So, I went back in, and saw that open was not an action for file folder extension (NONE). I created a new action called open, using explorer.exe. But now, however, it opens each folder in a new window, and it does it slightly slower than it would if I had actually chosen "open in new window". Speaking of which, I went to the options and changed it to open in new window, then changed it back to open in same window. No such luck. So, I was wondering, is it possible to restore the default actions for file types? I'm not to happy with it, but I could live. However, it also affects the other users on the computer and I dunno how they'd react to this. Luckily they don't navigate through folders too often.. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks.

If you are comfortable editing the registry then you should be able to fix this by hand. Find the HKCR\Folder key and then follow the directions given on the site Mrburns2007 gave you, but edit the various keys by hand. If you are not comfortable doing that, PM with an e-mail address and I will send you a reg file you can merge with your existing registry to fix this (assuming you are running WinXP).

Standard disclaimer: As always, your mileage may vary and I'm not responsible for anything that goes wrong when you monkey around in the registry.
