Apparently home schooled (high school years), didn't like gays or abortion and a self described conservative.

Possibly, but that's about 6 years ago, and he was quite young. IMO, no telling what his current attitude was.

"The Austin American-Statesman newspaper reports that he was homeschooled by his mother during his high school years. His parent's home is now being searched by authorities, according to the newspaper.

"I officially graduated Mark from High School," his mother wrote on Facebook in a 2013 post showing her son.

"He's thinking of taking some time to figure out what he wants to do...maybe a [religious] mission trip," his mother wrote."

...

"US media have uncovered a 2012 blog which was written under the suspect's name and appeared to be for a university course that he attended.

In the blog called "Defining my Stance", he purportedly describes beliefs that "gay marriage should be illegal", opposition to abortion and why the sex offender registry should be eliminated.

In the blog, he defines himself as "a conservative".

"But I don't think I have enough information to defend my stance as well as it should be defended," he says, adding that he is taking the course "because I want to understand the US government, and I hope that it will help me clarify my stance".

So his mother "officially graduated" him from high school in 2013 but he was attending collage in 2012, a year before? Unless things have changed drastically since I went to college you can't take college courses unless you have already graduated high school.

His name is not uncommon. Care should be taken not to mix up different people. We've been down that road before.

Finally, all I said is that the victims were disproportionately black. Austin is 8% black, so saying that the victims were disproportionately black when they were 40% of the victims is basic math.

While no one knows at this point what his motives were, I'm going to go way out on a limb here and opine that one of his driving forces was NOT making sure that his victims accurately represented the actual racial makeup of Austin's population. 🙄

Things haven’t changed drastically, you almost certainly could have taken courses at a local community college while still in high school too.

There hasn’t been any information that would lead people to believe his ideology drastically changed in recent years so unless that emerges it seems reasonable to think it stayed the same. Sadly, this is in line with the right wing terrorism problem that the US has been experiencing for years now.

Haha yes. Originally the victims all being monorities seemed suspicious but I haven’t seen anything since then that would indicate it was racially motivated.

This kid failed society, but before he darkened his soul something happened to him. How did society fail him?
The question comes not on behalf of the killer, but for the victims. Why were they harmed, and how do we prevent it in the future?
Is there a different sort of society we can form, that wouldn't have sent an unstable young man down this path?

"There's an ideological component" is such an absurdly loose definition it's pretty funny that you're getting mad about the precise meaning of the word.

The question was asked and it was properly answered. I didn't realize that the concept was as difficult as you made it out to be. Thanks for pointing out the utter inability of people to understand common words.

Next.

Again, that's not my speculation. I'm pointing out that it's not unreasonable.

The first 3 bombs (black, black, & Hispanic) were sent to houses. The rest, i.e. the ones that victimized white people were not sent to houses. They were left at a road side or exploded/discovered at Fed-Ex facilities.

Finally, all I said is that the victims were disproportionately black. Austin is 8% black, so saying that the victims were disproportionately black when they were 40% of the victims is basic math.

It's insanely asinine to argue any of this. And I include myself in that, I'm ashamed to allow myself to be drawn into this fucking Fox News type shit.

I'm just confused as to why you think its not unreasonable. Its a very small sample and some of what was done did not seem to have any target. I get that you think its speculation, but, for it to not be unreasonable it would have to be reasonable. If its reasonable, then it has to be logical and in this case it just seems like there is too little information to think its reasonable.

What we do no does not disprove it, but it is so far from establishing anything that I can't say any conclusion is reasonable.

You might get it. He recorded a 25 minute confession on his phone and police have it. They just announced it.

People have lost all values. Instead of a properly hand written (or at least typed) letter, they are lazily recording on that ubiquitous stupid phone. Not a good example to set for future bombers!

If the whole area hadn’t been a bomb free zone maybe he wouldn’t have bombed where he did. Could you imagine him dropping bombs if he had to worry about other bombs or landmines.

/sarcasm.

Is it just my perception or white folks have been getting quite prolific in these kind of killings these days?

Black folks probably do more killing but they usually keep it in-house, so well that's kind of different. Or it is some poor convenience store clerk....well, that's kind of different too. He can't possibly hope to compete against a blond suburban chic who goes missing or dead. Looks like competition doesn't end in this world. Goes on in the world of dead too! What a truly competitive universe!

As the perps or the victims? Your message appeared to shift from focusing on one, then the other.
And your premise of killings increasing? I'm not sure that's accurate.

You need a reboot.

white people are the most violent people. Its just that they killed so many they havent had to kill in a while.

As perps. Vegas then the school now this. Some high profile cases. I was talking mainly in that context. Seems like more crazies than before or at least ones with capabilities to do some damage before bowing out of the stage

Yup it’s what I was saying earlier. He quite literally just wanted to watch the world burn. It happens.

.

Trust me you would want to watch the world burn too if you had to deal with Austin traffic. Beautiful city but .....for all we know he just got fed up with it all
