REQUEST FOR GAMERS BIOS!!!

I dont game with my PC all the time but I would like a gamers BIOS and if possible a GAMERS video driver.

The bios would basically ask you if you want to boot normal mode or user configured mode.

This way I can use my PC normally when not gaming so its nice and quiet because the fans dont ever kick into high gear.

Then it should also have a gamer mode where its overclocked to my settings and aggressive ram timings.

This should help on PC life and should attract a lot of gamers becasue I dont need to be overclocked all the time with fans running high.

Video drivers should also only overclock the video clock speed when I go into specific 3d games. Again I dont need my video card overclocked all the time after all windows is 2D.

Anyone else think this is a good or bad idea?

ATI Tool can leave your vid card at stock during 2d and overclock when 3d mode is activated automatically. It also has loadable profiles for different vid overclocks.

You can also use Profiles to unload services and devices not used for gaming.

In a lot of BIOS setups there one master setting that you can change between Normal, Fast and Insane, that usually changes RAM timeings but its not as good as manually tweaking each setting.

So we are almost at what you want but it sure could be easier.

I tweak all mine myself to get the optimum settings, and to get what I want out of my motherboard. The preset overclocks are screwy and low, and if you know how to tweak it right you can hit a lot higher speeds with your motherboard yourself.

My Asus board came with an overclocking utility called AI booster that does just what you explained. You can save multiple overclock settings and activate them in windows with the click of a button. The problem is just like most of the other windows overclocking utilities they are very flaky and prone to crash your system, nTune is same way. Clockgen NF4 seems to be the best, you can safely change HTT and CPU multi but if you mess with voltages your risking a crash.

Changing your basic setting on the fly in Windows(especially volts and ram timings) is like changing the timing or gear ratios on your car while driving down the road, likely to cause you a crash🙂. I would like to see profiles in the actual bios, so you could safely swap settings with a reboot, without having to change all your settings.

I dont mind the reboot but I have to change about 9 settings to go from Silent to Gaming. I usually forget all my overclocked setting and have a post it note with my optimal for gaming mode.

Would just be nice to have a pre programmed selection of COOL AND QUIET MODE to CHAOS MODE.

Here are the things I usually change.
CPU CLOCK
CPU MULTIPLIER
CPU VOLTAGE
RAM TIMINGS (ALL OF THEM)
RAM VOLTAGE
I KNOW THERE IS MORE THAN THIS.

Thanks for the other programs I will check them out.

Some mobos have an option in the bios that allows you to set the parameters you want and than save it. It includes all aspects of the bios (at least on th DFI it does) not just the ram timings. The DFI board gives you four different save slots. It's a pretty sweet option and sounds like what you're looking for.

yep, dfi's 4 save slots are awesome. great for what you describe and to play with oc's when time permits.

Cool I have not used a DFI board since I think the 386 days? Maybe even one for a 486. How are they compared to the top boards today? How well are they at overclocking? I guess a google review serach is in order.

well they have the reputation of being the best overclocking motherboards around, and i know they have very nice voltage options and can handle nice megahertz 😎

I have had many ASUS motherboards and one ABit but it doesnt seem to have a user bios profile setting. Is this something on the newer boards?

You can save and load settings from four different slots on the motherboard with those three companies newest boards. And frankly, the DFI boards of today (the AMD ones anyway) are easily the best boards available on the market. More stable, higher overclocks translate to better stability at stock, and they make a really good looking board with lots of features. Definitely a recommended part.

What you want does exist. Use an A64 motherboard that supports "Cool and Quiet" so your clock speed can be adjusted automatically based on your usage. Use an Nvidia video cards that support different 2D speeds (FX and 6xxx series). Use temperature controlled fans.
