Republicans, do you realize your party is obsoleting itself?

To argue that because the republicans lost this year they are going to be completely removed from the national stage is to basically ignore the last 50 years of political history (or more) in this country.

What else is new? I think dems are having a good time right now, but when we turn into greece, france and spain, they'll be singing a different tune.

It can be legitimately argued that it is the democrats who are driving themselves out of work: forcing more and more people to be dependent on a govt that cant support them, all the while bastardizing and ounishing innovation and blaming the wealthy for social problems they have nothing to do with. Sounds like a recipe for success...

Mitt Romney looked like an evil SOB, but thats where the funding was for the presidential race, so thats who went up for voting.

Thats the pitfall of having everything revolving around money. Honestly if it was Paul Ryan running instead maybe he could have won, especially among younger voters. There are lots of GOP candidates who I thought could win, since you could tell Romney had way more confidence than he did substance.

It wasn't so much as voting for republican/democrat to me as it was "Not Obama, but kinda evil" vs "Obama, ugh"

Oooo, we're going to turn in to Greece, France, *and* Spain? That sounds like it would be pretty cool, actually.

Culture, good food, pleasant people, and anal. I'm not seeing a downside.

Although it might be more difficult to make English the official language under those conditions...

Keep digging that hole deeper, you buffoons.

If this is the case OP, why do you care? Seems like you would hoping that the Republican party implodes rather than warning this is happening.

I'm going to wait to see how the next two years go and the result of the midterm elections before I drive a stake through the Republican party's heart.

They don't realize it because most people who voted for Romney live in an echo chamber. It's a very monolithic electorate that was stuck together based on identity politics from the GOP. Many of these people have removed themselves from American society and culture. Instead, they spend all of their time talking and communicating with and watching news from this one very monolithic source. Anything else they see is foreign to them, so much so that the US is now a foreign country to them.

Look at the numbers. Romney's support was basically 90% white. 90%! How was that possible? Only through racial identity politics that got white people to vote for a white person just because of race. Meanwhile, Obama's support was very diverse, 50+% white and the rest was black, hispanic, asian, native-american. That is a group that is very inclusive and is only possible based on policy, not racial identity politics.

So the question now is, can Republicans finally drop racial identity politics and then look at their party more objectively? I'm not sure about it. Lots of these people would see the America of today as a foreign country.

Yeah getting 95% of black people to vote for you is not about racial identity politics 🙄

Did you even look at Obama's website. He had pages to pander to different racial, gender, sexual orientation groups.

Do you want to guess what group he didn't pander to?.... HINT: His straight white males.

Clinton got around 90% of the black vote as well, So did Kerry, Gore.

Yeah OK. Just as many straight White males made it to the polling stations to vote for Obama as any other race.

It makes me happy to see you Conservatives throwing a hissy fit and looking for excuses for why the big evil Black Muslim won office.

I bet an actual Muslim could run for President in 2016 and win against you idiots.

Republicans are not opposed to birth control.

They are opposed to the government paying for birth control. And against the government mandating that other 3rd Parties be forced to pay for women's BC.

Hows is this working out in Texas?

Texas drastically cut state funding for family planning. They cut $73million this biennium.

Studys by the states Depart of Health and Human services, have released projections that over the course of this and next biennium, Texas will have $500million in increased spending due to ~40,000 extra births that would not have taken if the poor had adequate access to family planning.

Only in Texas can you have a $73million cut turn into $427million in extra expenses.

Yeah you think the govt shouldnt provide birth control. And they shouldn't provide welfare, medicaid, etc. The later stuff is never going to happen. States would be wise to sufficiently fund family planning or else they will have substantially higher healthcare costs as a result. That is an irrefutable fact, even if you and the GOP are in denial of it.

So you have in no way refuted my statement that Republicans are not opposed to BC

Obama's coalition was diverse. It was white, black, hispanic, asian, native-american, gay, straight, etc.

Romney's coalition was almost all white. That's it.

So how is that possible to have an electorate of almost all of one race? Racial identity politics. White people who only wanted to vote for another white person who was offering all of those white people (e.g., old white people) tons of free government stuff.

Exactly. The GOP made their bed with the Southern Strategy. It won them a shit load of elections, but now that the nation's demographics are changing they are reaping what they sowed.

Racism, intolerance, xenophobia, anti-science, anti-intellectualism. This does not win national elections in a modernized nation. The GOP is in FAR bigger trouble than any conservative in this thread actually realizes.

Demographics are destiny. I'd like to hear exactly how the GOP plans to recapture the Latino and minority vote without alienating their racist and xenophobic base.

Ha, I see you work for the govt. Good talk though... anyway remember a few days, weeks, months ago when greece was broke and people were throwing fire bombs at government workers because of austerity changes? Remember spanish and french financial contagion?

Of course you don't. Keep on selectively choosing your reality.

The southern strategy is bullshit. The only record of anyone of any consequence actually mentioning it was one political strategist in an interview in 1981 talking about crap that happened when he wasn't even involved in politics. Democrats have had plenty of their own problems with racists but funny how Democrats have won the blame was while successfully dodging their own skeletons.

Yes, I do work for the government...did you have a point in mentioning that or was it just a pathetic attempt to be pithy?

anyway remember a few days, weeks, months ago when greece was broke and people were throwing fire bombs at government workers because of austerity changes? Remember spanish and french financial contagion?

Ahh, yes of course, because somehow magically we are Greece, France, and Spain now...I forgot about that part, my bad.

Of course you don't. Keep on selectively choosing your reality.

Oh I shall, and you keep burying your head in the sand come election time. How's that working out for you?

it's no surprise. The US now has a critical mass of moochers and parasites and they all voted to keep the candy man in the whitehouse.

Are you seriously this stupid?

But somehow Romney's support was almost all white. 90% white.

How did that happen?

Racial politics from the GOP. White men largely only wanted to vote for another white man after being duped by the GOP from racial politics. It's pretty bad.

And it was more than Lee Atwater who is associated with GOP racial identity politics and he was talking about his own racial politics strategy that the GOP used.

So the issue now is that the GOP base is mainly white people and largely white men who seem to only associate with other white people and largely other white men. This is an echo chamber. These people have been completely tricked by the GOP using racial identity politics. It's gotten so bad that these people have removed themselves from American society and American culture. Will they be able to break free from their racial politics echo chamber? I'm not sure.
