"Unprepared" ?
The world is suppost to end in 2012 (or is it 2014?).
So just how long do they need to get "prepared" anyway ?
Let the transistion begin!!!
When their analog screen goes blank, they'll get the idea.

Well according to some who support the delay here in Arizona, those on the indian reservations who don't have running water and are bare foot,... who couldn't save $1 a month for the price of a converter box over last 18 months (when added to the coupon) won't get the important emergency notice that the world is coming to an end!!!

Don't ask me why they have televisions when they have no shoes,... priorities I guess,...

Like.. how does the delay hurt anyone?

Companies have paid the government a lot of money for the frequencies becoming available, additionally lots of stations spent a fair amount of money in their transitions plans, keeping both system running can be expensive.

Excellent, hopefully we can be done with the wasteful analog broadcast and transition to the more efficient digital signals.

 for more channels using less space.

Poor, not lazy.

Gotta keep the corporations happy. Nevermind that millions won't have TV. Nice work.
It's almost as if Republicans are determined to remain the minority party.

People have had long enough to get ready for the transition, if they didn't bother getting a converter then that is their own fault. If they can't afford one maybe not having a TV will inspire them to do something better with their lives.

Even with a convertor box, many will not get digital TV. Is this their fault?
Grouch Marx said something to the effect of : " TV is a great educational device, every time someone turns it on-I leave the room and read a book."

first off, this is a good thing, anyone who doesn't have a box by now was just lazy the past 5 years.

Second, republicans didn't stop this, Dems could have passed it if they wanted, but didn't get enough of their own votes.

Remember, they hold the majority, they can do what they want.

Uh, yes the Republicans did stop this. However...

Gene Kimmelman, vice president for federal policy at the Consumers Union, which has been lobbying for a delay, said he hopes the House will bring the bill up again for a regular floor vote, which would only require majority support to pass. Wednesday's vote took place under a special procedure that required two-thirds support for passage.
House Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., said he is working with the Obama administration and congressional leaders to explore all available options.

"A clear majority in Congress supports postponing the transition and providing assistance to the millions of households that are unprepared," Waxman said in a statement.

Wednesday's House vote came two days after the Senate unanimously passed the bill, sponsored by Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John D. Rockefeller, D-W.Va. The Senate is expected to vote on the bill again ? possibly as early as Wednesday night ? to incorporate minor changes in the House version so that it can go directly to the White House for President Obama's signature if it clears the House next week.

Also isnt emergency services set to take over some of the channels?

After all the warning, if people are still not with it, they never will be.
And the gov waiting for more $$$ to be pumped into the converter program just sounds like another opportunity for some congress persons to add a LOT of pork to yet another funding bill.
You REALLY think these congress persons give a rats A whether or not everyone
is ready for the switchover???
PBS as well as all the other stations have kept up their end of the bargain.
And a lot of these stations have fought this change from the start. And fought hard.
They did not want to spend a dime on converting their hardware, regardless of
what the advantages were.
After all this time, years in fact, there is not ONE legit reason to delay this even one single day longer.

And what is really idiotic is why some still fight the change over, they can not grasp
the advantages and benefit they will gain. A lot more available stations, at great quality, compared to what they receive now. Its funny how people fight change for the better, just because it is change. They can't grasp the benefit. They just refuse the change.
There will always be people like that. And they will never be "prepared".

I for one am glad it was defeated, but there is still plenty of time to pass another bill. The delay will probably be pushed through next week.

I think it's kind of funny House Republicans fought the bill, though. It passed unanimously in the Senate because Republicans and Democrats reached a compromise by allowing stations to decide whether they want to shut off analog broadcasts before June 12. It seems like House Republicans just killed the bill because they could, maybe so they could feel like they still have some power in government, lol.

If it comes down to a simple majority vote in both the House and Senate, though, this delay will have no problem getting signed into law.
