That's where you're wrong. It's noit just a TV. In rural areas it's your link to the news and especially the weather.

Is that need not met just as well be cheaper and more prevalent radios?

So are Obama and Dems going to do it the "right way" and show us how it's supposed to be done? Naw...they plan to continue with the Bush coupon program. So what was your point again?

All they can do is work with what the mess Bush handed them and try to get thiongs back on track.

So what was your point besides trying to derail the thread?
Your comment and my response both have relevance to the thread topic...derail not found. I just happen to take exception to your perspective on this particular issue. You probably shouldn't post if you have a personal problem with people disagreeing with you.

I really am having a hard time imagining millions of people freezing to death while they stare at static on their television screaming "TV please tell me if I should turn the heat on!"

If we delayed this until "everyone was ready" the sun would literally explode before it happened.

Radio weather forecasts just aren't as thorough as what the TV has, not to mention no radar. Rural people plan their days around the TV weather forecasts in the morning, at 12 and 6.

Except the R's were in charge of this and expecting Obama to start it over from scratch is an idiotic approach and is only trying to criticize the Dems who are only trying to make the program they inherited from the stupid ass neocons actually work the way it was supposed to.

So yeah, I call that a DUHHHversion, big time.

Nothing like waiting until a month before the transition. Coupons have only been available for at least a year now.

If the reimbursement program is so screwed up as you seem to think it is...the Dems now have the power to fix it. Maybe you should voice your concerns and be on their ass to get it fixed immediately....otherwise it's just another BDS bitch and moan session blaming "stupid ass neocons" for everything you think or imagine is wrong with the world.

On the other hand...if it's NOT so screwed up enough to warrant changes...then it's just another BDS bitch and moan session blaming "stupid ass neocons" for everything you think or imagine is wrong with the world. Hmmm...I think we have a potential pattern here.

BTW...I'm not criticizing Dems here in any way here...I'm OK with their approach of delaying the transition for a couple months...I'm just taking issue with your off-handed comment. The tables have turned and it's time to take responsibility instead of making excuses. If it's broke...fix it. Otherwise please spare us the hate.

Did you even read this thread? Here's the title:

The Dems are trying to do something about it but the R's are trying to make political hay out of it. You lose. 😛

Now, maybe you should take your own advice and not post if you have a personal problem with people disagreeing with you. Next time think it through before you spout off.

I love how people dont know what to do with themselves over their TV if they have to foot the entire 40 dollar bill for a converter box. What a nation of whiners, bog govt tit suckers, and victims we have become.

So are you volunteering to pay for a few out of your own pocket? I didn't think so.

For me it's not so much about the $40 as is expecting the government to fix a problem they created. It's called accountablity. I guess now I see why so many righties are against it.

I already did when I purchased TV's that were capable of handling a digital signal.
So everytime the govt creates a problem you want them to wipe everybody's ass?

The govt doesnt have enough toilet paper.

For me it is so pathetic to watch people flail about because they have to lay out 40 bucks for a converter box. And they wont unless the govt helps them. Oh the humanity!

Well aren't we smart!! Personally I have old TV's that were bought years ago, but I have cable, except for the TV in the garage.

And as for your other question. Yes I expect the goverment to be accountable for it's actions.

ROFL...you've totally missed my point here...you said Bush's coupon system sucked and advocated that the "right way" was "90 days to send in the reciept for reimbusment". All the Dems want to do is delay the transition and extend the existing coupon system accordingly. I agree with this approach. I disagree with your suggested approach. It makes no sense to change the reimbursement program at this point and we don't have a time machine to change history. So effectively...nothing changes expect a couple more months of breathing room. The BDS is strong with you...surely you can find better issues than this one to use as justification of your hatred.

Blaming "stupid ass neocons" for something such as this (coupons vs. 90-day reimbursement) is just plain crazy talk.

You can attempt to take my words out of context and arrange them so you can prop up your lame ass argument. Anybody impartial can see what you're attempting to do.

The only one you're fooling at this point is yourself... or maybe some stupid ass neocon. Since you take such offense to the words "stupid ass neocon" I just had to fit them in there one last time. 😛

I can only hope that Sore-looser obstructionism gets a bunch of Republicans voted out of office in two years.

Not everyone is sitting there impatiently waiting to get coupons as soon as they come out. I had other things on my mind, and I am not a huge television watcher.
Plus, how am I supposed to know they are going to run out of money? I figured, hey, I'll just wait till later, maybe they'll have cheaper, better, faster converter boxes 🙂
Anyways, I don't see why Bush and Republicans didn't fight to fully fund this coupon program if they are so against delaying the transition.
I also don't see why Democrats brought this up under 2/3 rule, and not simple majority. Why would they want to give Republicans an opportunity to delay this if they don't have to?

There are conflicting issues. Broadcasters have invested in the hardware and facilities and set schedules for the change. Consumers either have or have not gotten as far as anticipated in preparing for the change.

Either there is or there isn't some compelling reason to consider delaying the change. If there is, the cost either is or there isn't excessive for doing so.

I don't understand why is this any kind of political issue, at all, rather than a simple adminstrative decision based on facts. 😕

I think something on the order of 1/3 to 1/2 of the coupons issued have not been redeemed. I've also heard multiple stories of people trying to sell the coupons on the street.

Blame the system, and blame the people. Stupid idea, idiotic people.

If free TV is important enough, then pay the $40 yourself. If you can't afford $40, then you have problems other than TV. Don't stand in the way of progress. End of story.

You know it's not like they dropped this one on us overnight. We've all known it was coming for years now and everybody has had time to prepare for it. Hell the government has been advertising those free box coupons for quite some time so IMHO nobody has a leg to stand on who wants to delay the conversion. I've got the boxes myself and the digital air tv picture is so much cleaner than conventional that if you compared the two you wouldn't want to watch regular analog tv ever again.

first off, this is a good thing, anyone who doesn't have a box by now was just lazy the past 5 years.

Second, republicans didn't stop this, Dems could have passed it if they wanted, but didn't get enough of their own votes.

Remember, they hold the majority, they can do what they want.

Uh, yes the Republicans did stop this. However...
Text
Gene Kimmelman, vice president for federal policy at the Consumers Union, which has been lobbying for a delay, said he hopes the House will bring the bill up again for a regular floor vote, which would only require majority support to pass. Wednesday's vote took place under a special procedure that required two-thirds support for passage.
House Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., said he is working with the Obama administration and congressional leaders to explore all available options.

"A clear majority in Congress supports postponing the transition and providing assistance to the millions of households that are unprepared," Waxman said in a statement.

Wednesday's House vote came two days after the Senate unanimously passed the bill, sponsored by Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John D. Rockefeller, D-W.Va. The Senate is expected to vote on the bill again ? possibly as early as Wednesday night ? to incorporate minor changes in the House version so that it can go directly to the White House for President Obama's signature if it clears the House next week.

G'DAMN it's a f'in TV! Are you seriously trying to make me feel sorry for these people Waxman? God, I feel like throwing a tv through a window right now.

That's where you're wrong. It's noit just a TV. In rural areas it's your link to the news and especially the weather.
Evidently not that much news if these people didn't bother getting their situation sorted out already.
If we delayed this until "everyone was ready" the sun would literally explode before it happened.
Yep, at some point technical Darwin has to win.

It's $40 that people had a year to save for, but would have been free for the asking if they acted in time. When (not if) the same people figure they can delay doing something further, we'll just ignore these poor victims of progress, downtrodden masses at the end of their last can of beer? Heavens no! We'll have to have another postponement! It's not like we've been planning this transition for years now is it?

Do you live in a rural area that is served by free over the air digital TV? I do and I watch OTA TV in my garage/shop all the time. The TV stations never really got the word out until the last 3 months and that's when the flood of requests exceeded the available number of coupons.

I guess it's easy, even expected for people who sit in front of a computer all day to not be able to relate to the issues of the rural people.
