Republican Party continues to further marginalize itself

Dari

Rush Limbaugh had a song about Obama called "Barack the Magic Negro" played on his show. But now the Republican Party has copied the song, put it on a CD, and sent it to all their members. Classy. Real classy. After the ass-whopping they've gotten in the last two election cycles, you'd think they'd get away from the xenophobia. They are a party of fools.

RNC chair candidate sends out controversial Obama song
Posted: 03:10 PM ET

From CNN Associate Political Editor Rebecca Sinderbrand

(CNN) ? A candidate for Republican National Committee chairman said Friday it was clear the content of a CD he sent committee members for Christmas ? that included lyrics from a song called ?Barack the Magic Negro? ? was intended as a joke.

?I think most people recognize political satire when they see it,? Chip Saltsman told CNN. ?I think RNC members understand that.? Saltsman, a former chair of the Tennessee Republican Party, was a top advisor to former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, and managed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee?s presidential campaign.

The song, set to the tune of ?Puff the Magic Dragon,? was first played on Rush Limbaugh?s radio show in 2007. Its title was drawn from a Los Angeles Times column that suggested Obama appealed to those who feel guilty about the nation?s history of mistreatment of African-Americans. Saltsman said the song, penned by long-time friend Paul Shanklin, should be easily recognized as satire directed at the Times.

The parody CD sent to RNC members this Christmas, first reported by The Hill Friday, is titled ?We Hate the USA?, and includes songs referencing former presidential John Edwards and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, among other targets.

How come you libs aren't mad at the LA Times for writing the "Barack the Magic Negro" story in the first place?

Because the LA Times is NOT to be blamed.

Stupid is as stupid does - like not reading . . . and lack of comprehension.

Who's mad? It's just rather curious that this guy thought it would be appropriate.

Saltsman told CNN it was all in good fun. "I think most people recognize political satire when they see it." Saltsman said. "I think RNC members understand that."

I do recognize political satire when I see it. And "Barack the Magic Negro," ain't it! That's pure race baiting. Although, now that I think of it, perhaps for the RNC race baiting is "political". Just when one thinks they can't possibly get any stupider or more disconnected, the RNC manage to ratchet it up a few notches. This just displays how much the Republicans are continuing their Death Spiral. They don't get it, and they haven't for a long time.

The guy should have not included it on his cd, that was stupid.

But overall it's not such a big deal. The song is not even directed at Barack, it actually makes fun of Sharpton who 'sings' the song.

The original coinage was an opinion piece by David Ehrenstein, not a product of the LA Times itself. But ProJo already knew that. Here it is-

and the song with video-

The difference is none too subtle, despite the usual attempted diversion. Nice try, though.

The whole thing is illustrative of the disarray in the repub party. They have a radicalized base to maintain, but must pitch moderates to win elections other than on a regional basis. And that's obviously becoming more difficult in the wake of the Bush disaster. Credibility among moderates is falling fast.

Saltsman is pandering to the Sarah! Sarah! base, obviously, and really doesn't care about the fast dwindling support from less radical quarters. In the process, he's violating the "You can't say that!" rule of all successful repubs- it's OK to believe it, promote it, and to discuss it among yourselves in private, but it's not for publication, ever...

With any luck, he'll become the RNC chairman, and repubs will be cast into the political wilderness for a couple of decades, which is where they belong... retrenched into denial. It's really what's carried them this far, but has become a much less popular activity as economic reality sets in... a reality they created.

Seriously, this is news? Paul Shanklin releases a political satire CD and a politician gives them as gifts and this is news?!?

That video has nothing to do with the song and was created by someone else entirely.

A black Democrat man sings "Barrack the magic negro", and the Republicans are attacked for enjoying it. Fancy that.

some guy from Tennessee = the entire republican party?

The guy is running for the RNC Chair and was also a advisor to republicans like B.Frist.

Also...
" aired on Rush Limbaugh's radio show. "
and
" To date, no Republican officials have condemned the CD. "

 So you people still don't understand the "magic negro" thing and think it's some racist ploy by those EVAL REPUKIANS? Grow up already. Sheesh

Hahahha, oh Republicans. And these morons are shocked... SHOCKED when minorities avoid them like the plague. Who would have thought that 60 years of race baiting would come back to bite them in the ass? It must just be that all those black people are so damn racist.

Sounds like they've already given up on 2012.

Mission Control to GOP HQ: Minority population booming in the US. Repeat: Minority population on the rise. Do not reinforce the GOP stereotype of being the "old white guy's party".

It's not diverting. It's commenting on this thread and what you libs post. S

Seriously - do you not understand the "magic negro" thing? Ofcourse you don't - you WANT to see racism from the R side so this provides you and your types cover provided you prey on people's ignorance of it's origins.
