The Democrats selected a Young Female Student that was unqualified. They should choose better IMO. That was probably the best they could come up with, some poor ignorant 19 year old.

Your statement that birth control is attainable to anyone that wants it is simply false, if for no other reason than you have no way of proving that claim.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Someone explain to me how this policy violates the first amendment.

The Church is absolutely free to continue spouting drivel about the evilness of contraception, this rule would do nothing to alter that. A policy which has been absolutely devastating across the world, leading to tremendous suffering and death. Governments should make decisions based on what is sound health care policy, not what will save someone's soul.

What's funny is that this would never happen if it was another religion. If Muslims were angry about this contraception business we would never hear about it.

How many bishops have experience using it, or with a partner using it? The only position the Catholic Church takes is 'our religious texts don't really mention contraception but have a line about procreating like rabbits, and therefor no one is allowed to use contraception for any reason!' Not really the best point of view to start a real discussion.

See the bolded part above. The Government cannot interfere with your religious beliefs. The Catholic Religion doesn't condone birth control or abortions.

Bishops are More Qualified to discuss the religious practices of their religion.
 
I do not like conspiracies but it does look like Obama's triangulation strategy on "culture war" is a success. The GOP has gone back to the 50's overnight, and Romney's nomination became much more unsettling. This is not a winning battle for the GOP (contraception, really?), but it had an effect of stoking some folks (you can imagine who) to get out to vote for.. Santorum in otherwise abysmal, record-low turnout GOP primary.

I wonder if Mr. Obama has consulted with the Clintons prior to making this an issue.
 
Bullshit misleading title, to go along with a non-issue. The title is obviously misleading because we've already established that there were women on the panel, they just didn't happen to have the same opinion as the dems would like. The democrats were allowed to pick a witness, they picked one that has no particular demonstrable area of expertise, so she was rejected as unqualified. This is just political grandstanding by the way, the media/administration trying to do damage control over the whole "forcing churches to pay for contraception" debacle.

No one is making someone use birth control, they are giving better access to it so that those who want it will be able to get it. If you don't think others should have this access to this because it's against your religion... fuck off it's not up to you.

She is more qualified because she has been in a situation where bc was medically necessary, and could not obtain it. She is living proof of the consequences of not having it available for women. And, you know..she's FEMALE! The RCC does not allow priests, bishops, cardinals, etc. to be female.

But you can take your anti-catholic tripe and spew it elsewhere. It adds nothing to the discussion.

I know this is hard for some of you dopes to understand, but the issue is not contraception and whether people should use it or should have access to it. The issue is forcing religious institution to pay for something that goes against their religious beliefs.

A priest is qualified to talk about religious/church doctrine.

I know this is hard for you to understand but with President Obama's latest proposal they wouldn't have to pay for it.

1. Under the new policy, the RCC would not be forced to pay for contraceptive services. That point is moot. The fact that the bishops are still complaining that it will be made available to its non-clergy employees is the issue.

2. A priest is qualified to talk about religious/church doctrine. Nobody has said that they are unqualified. However, seeing as how this is an issue regarding women's health, it seems prudent to have actual women involved in that panel.
