I know it is hard to see any value in Christianity these days, and that I am no paragon of virtue.
But these governors are no Christians. Nor are the preachers, or any of the leaders who should know better.
The people in communities, the pews, they have been lied to for so long, they no longer know what being Christian means. If you talk to them, they are trying to do what they feel is right, loving, but their minds have been twisted by their leaders who do anything for the worship of power.
Puts it best. For millenniums Christianity was used to keep the lower classes in order, and it can still be used for that.
Christianity is well on its way to the dust bin of history these days. In many cases, deserving its fate. Yet not every church has embraced hatred, not every congregation has fallen to the calling of murdering their neighbors. Yet guilty by association smears them all.
Still, most people believe in some sort of deity. After the power of the church is cast down, humbled, and shattered, I wonder if it will have a place again? I wonder what will survive? I wonder if the rituals I love will have any place, or will just be a distant memory in a museum. I have to imagine that all of those people would find value in the church if the church was able to humble itself and meet them on their terms.
