Looks like Trump and Thune will have their shutdown. As a reminder: the Republicans control the entire government and don’t need a single Democratic vote to pass a budget and keep the government running.
The Party that shuts down the government every few years is going to shut down the government. Standard Operating Procedure.

What’s the current Vegas action on Trump invoking/threatening to invoke the insurrection act during a shutdown to scare Dems into getting in line?

Why am I fairly confident that Trump and Rs are going to take most of the blame here? They did in 2018 when they also had a trifecta and also they can't help but shoot themselves in the dick publicly. Also clearly nobody has mentioned that there is an important election in Virginia in about a month.

It looks like they're trying a new tactic - if a democrat wins, they'll refuse to swear them in.

If the outgoing government refuses to cede power as demanded by the constitution then they are likely to face revolution.

Do not worry, as of today the Pentagon is now laser focused on that task. To occupy American soil and to put down the American people.

But it isn’t about a total occupation. He’s being the showman. After the 29 days lapses, he proclaims he cleaned up the city. Well there’s some truth to that statement. The national guard will be doing the same thing they are doing in DC. Actually picking up trash because there is nothing else for them to do

People who don't get their SS check aren't going to ponder about the nuisances of government. They're going to see Trump in White House and Republican congressional majorities. I'm sure it'll work out great.

Stop the SSI payments and shut off Medicare results in Grey Dawn. See what R electeds think when the elderly show up at their office with guns and nothing to lose.

This hits the nail on the head. Why agree to a funding bill the WH will change the deal on through impoundment and rescission of funds to legally roll it back through a simple majority?

Republicans made their bed.
It only takes 51 to pass a budget. Senate rules are subject to the whim of the majority. The Republicans have all the votes they need to pass a budget without a single Democratic vote. Republican infighting is the reason why the shutdown will happen, nothing to do with the Democrats.

Not knowing if you've served or not, and if you have, then thank you for your service and you'd probably know what I'm referring to. I'd just like to bring up that old saying about "Idle Hands are the Devil's Playground". After being drafted and getting that done, I've been in three Reserve/Guard Units and I can attest to the fact (from personal experience) that that other adage about "Boys being Boys" is truer than true, especially in this particular situation where these boys are given guns to play with and for the most part, not having actual experience dealing with the public from a position of authority. Generally speaking, I recall cleanup details are doled out as punishment because nobody wants to be seen doing demeaning sort of chores like that, especially right out there in view of the public. Lots of other reasons could have led up to those troops "maintaining public relations" like that, Jus' say'in this could be one of them.

Also this.

In the long run, it could be good for Republicans to finish blowing up the filibuster, so they take all the heat for it, instead of a future Democratic majority having to waste political capital on it.

Of course he only cares about the "bad for them" as in Democrats, not "bad for them" as in people that voted for him.
I'm not sure he cares about those who voted for him either. I saw an interview with a Trump voter who had his wife deported - when asked if he would still vote for Trump, he says yes.

This is going to affect me because I go into a government space for work every Wednesday, and if they are shut down, then I can't go in for obvious reasons.

Yay not knowing if I'll be remote or not tomorrow morning!
