The free market has spoken. Employers are willing to pay far more for same roles in liberal areas.

I have a great plan for the Republicans to combat this. They should alter the US census to add a question about citizenship status. Given all the fear mongering lately that will undoubtedly lead to a large under-counting of Hispanic residents including a very large group who are here completely legally. There are over 14 million in California alone -- more than all but 4 states! That will totally lead to fewer Democrat House seats, less federal funding, and less sway in the electoral college. And best of all it'd be done in the name of the Voting Rights Act to accurately apportion seats. Because it's all about accuracy with the Republicans.

Here’s an even better one, Democrats raise their state and local taxes to the levels they advocate federal taxes to be raised to in order to fund their social welfare dreams. Many of the citizens of those states and cities flee to lower tax jurisdictions and refill those areas mentioned in OP. Everybody’s happy and gets what they want, the end.

Why would people go where the jobs are disappearing?

If social welfare is so horrible, why do red states take so much federal money?

and then Trump enacts welfare for those red states to keep them bribed, stupid and inline.

Whatever works. Seems kind of unfair to have the utopian social welfare dreams of blue cities be permanently kept on hold because the federal legislature can't pass the needed laws. There's little need or reason to wait for places like Kansas or Utah to come around when SF and NYC can pass their own 50% tax rates and spend away on social welfare, universal healthcare, and the like.

Or, you know, prosperous blue states could quit subsidizing our poorer red state brethren. The truth is that Dems would do a lot more of it to alleviate the issues of small town America. We'll fund small town hospitals, clinics, mental health programs, water & sewer projects, jobs programs, housing assistance & whatever it takes to make the lives of people better all across America. And we'll tax the richest of the rich to do it, too. And you know what? It won't change the lifestyles of the people at the tippy-top enough for them to even notice. They're that rich.

And they pay oh-so-oppresssive taxes, anyway-

The latest GOP tax cut will likely put a lot of the super rich paying the same federal tax rates as families struggling to get by.

You got yours, anyway, right? Everybody else can eat shit & die for all you care.

Well that's a dumb idea, then you would just have refugees from the red states coming into the blue ones and those blue states would still have to be subsidizing noncompetitive conservative areas like they already do. It seems the better plan is to just pass sensible federal legislation because the hope here is that conservative areas can look to the liberal ones and lean something about how to make themselves more economically viable.

I think we both agree it's better to lift people up than drag them down so sometimes you need to do what's best for everyone even if conservatives might not realize it at the moment. Consider it tough love.

he is tired of being happy.
but... but... Trump promised so much winning. I mean losing their jobs, losing healthcare, losing clean air/water, losing allies, losing to Russia, losing their integrity, losing their dignity, losing their sanity, losing a moral compass... That's all still winning right and the happiness they feel is so god damn palpable ain't it?

Why is right-wing media filled conspiracy theories? The new GOP cannot retain voters unless they are in a constant state of fear and despair.

Why on earth would they want to fix the issues that puts their base in that state?

No jobs? Immigrants and intellectuals are the cause of that!

If I were looking for a collective, group or mass-logic, this is what stymies me. The last I checked, Blue states were getting something like 90 cents returned in federal spending for every dollar they pay in federal taxes; Red states excluding Texas are getting back maybe $1.10 for every dollar they pay in federal taxes. The difference goes into their economies to buy -- stuff, or pay state income taxes. There's a multiplier effect.

So why do they collectively want to give up more of that? With fewer taxes, does your median-income Mississippian get to buy a new Lexus every year? Or if he had to wait 5 years instead of 3, would it make a good goddam? Somebody -- Somebody! -- in those Red states must actually calculate that they're better off for keeping their economies down and boosting their off-shore holdings. Who is it? And are they deliberately recruiting Lemmings with delusions?

John Galt is the imagined figment of a drug-addled narcissist, spoiled by her bourgeois family, accessing her father's pharmaceuticals, raised without Jesus or the Old Testament God, graduated from post-Bolshevik graduate film school, pampered by Cecil B. DeMille after coming here to pursue a grudge, and ashamed that she was so broke when diagnosed with lung cancer that she used her husband's Social Security and -- God forbid! -- Medicare.

I print pictures to glue to the pavement downtown at night, with boldly printed instructions to "Step on this Bitch!" There's no university literature department in the US which takes her prolix drivel seriously.

Anyway, isn't it "JOE Galt?" "The Fountainhead" made Gary Cooper look bad, given the really American roles he played. "Oh, I'll tell you how to think, because I studied Plato and Nietzsche, but I became a tuned-up paragon of economic thought by some process I won't describe. Objectivism! Objectivism! I've found a new philosophy!" You'd waste less time if you read "Art of the Deal" -- also for obvious reasons.

About 8PM Pacific time on election night as it was becoming clear that Hilary was losing to _____, a major TV broadcast network had Michael Moore in the studio and he was glum as could be. Being from Flint Michigan and having made a documentary about the election cycle in progress he had his finger on the pulse. He said the people who voted for _____, the working people who were hoping for an economic renaissance from it were going to be bitterly disappointed. I just hope that happens sooner than later so we can escape a 2nd mis-administration.

New job growth statistics show that overall the country will add about 2.6 million jobs during 2018. But most of these new jobs will be added in Democratic strongholds rather than in the Republican areas that overwhelmingly voted for Trump and put him in the White House.
Sheesh. Are Republicans lemmings?

LOL, sure whatever you just keep waiting a few more decades to put your good ideas into place. They're so good that you won't implement it for yourselves unless and until the red states (the ones you're already claiming to subsidize) are forced to as well.
