Is it really a repost if it was posted first in another forum?

Also, those of you saying "Google is becoming a monopoly" need to grab a dctionary and look up the meaning of the word. If Google was buying every other search engine out there, then they'd be becoming a monopoly.

Yeah, Google isn't becoming a monopoly. They're becoming.... Uhh, well, there really is no precedence for stealing terminology here. Lets just call them a Googleplex.

I wouldn't hate Paypal so much if they just stop ripping me off. Besides, competition is a healthy thing.

How so? McDonalds is a monopoly, yet there are other fast food monopoly's like Burger King. Why would Google have to own every other search engine?

Taken from here:

http://www.answers.com/monopoly&r=67
mo·nop·o·ly (m?-nop'?-le) pronunciation
n., pl. -lies.

1. Exclusive control by one group of the means of producing or selling a commodity or service: ?Monopoly frequently ? arises from government support or from collusive agreements among individuals? (Milton Friedman).
2. Law. A right granted by a government giving exclusive control over a specified commercial activity to a single party.
3.
1. A company or group having exclusive control over a commercial activity.
2. A commodity or service so controlled.
4.
1. Exclusive possession or control: arrogantly claims to have a monopoly on the truth.
2. Something that is exclusively possessed or controlled: showed that scientific achievement is not a male monopoly.
McDonalds and Burger King are FRANCHISES - not monopolies.

mcdonalds has a monopoly on the big mac, but not on the burger market. It is monopolistic competition, with each business having a monopoly over a *certain* product, but not over the market as a whole.

Google is not a monopoly simply because there are plenty of other sites that offer the exact thing that google does, and google isnt trying to shut them down or force them off the internet.

Just the fact that you could name Burger King means McDonalds is NOT a monopoly.

Online search-engine leader Google Inc. (GOOG) is preparing to introduce an electronic payment system later this year in a move that would pose a financial threat to one of its biggest advertisers, Internet auctioneer eBay Inc. (EBAY)

The merchants who run auctions on eBay are major buyers of Google's ads, which appear alongside search results.

make up your mind, author...who's buying the ads, Ebay or the merchants? kinda misleading, eh?

oh, yeah, fvck paypal

I agree. Any thing you have to pay for brings hate...also, there will be money disputes and one party will always end up mad...

People love google's services right now in part because they're free
