I actually think I don't apply myself because I don't think anything is worthy of spending time with. I just like to waste time doing nothing and I really hate being involved in anything because I think it all adds up to nothing. Simplify the matter of life: we're just here roaming this big rock satisfying our hunger, sexual and other desires or needs that were handed to us by a higher power. Time will not cease yet we believe it will and so we try to make our lives seem important by racing in and out of our houses to jobs that don't matter and pretending like we're making a difference.

You sound like one of my best friends, he often has this "what's the point?" attitude. What you say makes sense. I guess I just follow more the mentality of Colin Hanks in Orange County:

"I have to go to college."
"Why?"
"Bec...ca...cause that's what you do... after High School!"

My point is, we can sit here and be all philisophical, but you're not likely to be happy if you don't go with the flow to some extent. It's much better to have a job and be thinking 'what's the point' than to be starving and feel righteous.

Yep. I remember I took Chemistry because of the pressure of being different if I didn't. Boy was I f_cking stupid. I not only showed everyone that I couldn't do it but also added even more pressure upon me. That's the last time I'm gonna try and keep up with the jones.

Apples and oranges. I'm talking about the broad picture, the whole spectrum of the concept of school, you're talking about taking one science class instead of another.

English 70% D
Art 87% B

Computer Apps. 100% A

When I saw it I just laughed. I was actually hoping for straight F's because that report card reflected nothing of me. I didn't try at all in any of the classes with F's and those I did better in I tried only because I really like the teachers. I've never did this bad in school.

It says you're a bum who sucks at social studies, chemistry, math, and english. What else is there?

Why are people just content with passing? A lot of people here said that "I barely studied in high school and got a C".

That's not a good thing. A "C" is not good. An A is good. Doing your best is good. Staying content with an average mark is not.

If you put your effort into anything you do (no matter how crappy it is) you'll feel good and it develops character. Even if its something as simple as shovelling the driveway or something tough like writing a lab report on grain size of brass.

You want to make sure you shovel off all the snow off the driveway and not do a half ass job just cause you don't want to do it.

There are a lot of things we don't WANT to do. But since we HAVE to do it, we might as well do our best at it.

This raises a whole lot of "yeah. But..."

C is not good? Well, that depends. If you're someone who is capable of an A in that course, then yes, you are correct that a C is not good. But some people, as I've said before, are just not good at school. Which oftentimes says nothing of their intelligence. I'll use myself as something of an example here: I'm a pretty good student, all A's and B's, maybe an occasional C, but not often. I'm in the top 1/4 of my class, so I'm happy. However, not to gloat, but I think I'm a really intelligent kid. However, my good friend Jake is incredibly bright. I mean, wow, he has some amazing ideas, and even his teachers recognize this. However, he get's C's and D's. He's just not good at the format of school, despite his intelligence. He's much smarter than I am, yet I'm a much better student.

Many people would ask a whole lot of "but why"s about your last statement there. Do we really HAVE to do school? Of course. But WHY? Then is when you get all these deep-thinkers who think they've got it all figured out, yet they are rarely the successful (or happy) ones in life.

Ok I was rebellious the first time I went through college and failed some classes. Once I sorted out my anger issues and applied myself, I make nearly straight A's. Have only had one B in the last 40+ hours taken. I don't buy into the argument that intelligent people don't get good grades because they aren't stimulated. You will stimulate yourself if you want to be successful, nothing is handed out for free ;)

well thats why I say "do your best". If your best is a C, that's fine..nothing wrong with that..but it shouldn't be your "well i could do better but I don't like my teachers".

Teachers could care less what you get (well the good ones do care, but I disgress).
