what did he have to say about the fact that he said it wasn't possible and you were able to do it? and do you feel comfortable with him trying to put a partition on that drive? after all he wasn't able to do what you did and he supposedly has more experience than you do.

he said good job and sounded excited. i think he is just getting old and kinda losing his memory on things. he also has a lot of heart problems and medication hes on could be affecting him. otherwise, i think he probably pretended to copy it over, but wanted me to figure it out by myself .. or maybe hes just stupid. you never know. he definitely does have a lot of experience though and knows a LOT about computers. i feel a lot more comfortable about him trying to put the partition on than me :p i dont even understand the concept of a partition other than it just seperates the hard drive into different parts right?

Yup, then you format the partitions and assign drive letters to make them useable. what are you planning on doing with almost 300 Gigs of hd space?

Use a cloning program. Both WD and Maxtor include cloning programs with their drives.

thats what i was thinking but he said something about it copying the operating system and messing something up. is he just stupid?

also, will that copy the programs? and will the maxtor program work with any brand? i have a maxtor (the 160gb) and a seagate (the 120gb).

He's wrong. At work we use PowerQuest Image Center, I can make an "image" of a hard drive and then load onto another, and the OS wouldn't know the difference.

Send me your drives and I'll do it for you. Norton Ghost baby! Good stuff. I never trust those partitioning programs... have always given me headaches! I do this several times a day at work... oh the joy. Good luck none the less! :)

That's because you only have 30 GB of the space on a partition/formatted. Set up the rest and you'll find the remaining 113GB or so.
