I had a dead original Intellimouse Explorer laying around that has been dead for about 6 months. Never realized it was still under warranty and could be replaced. This is a great thread. Thanks for the tip. I guess I'll be getting a new Intellimouse Explorer 3.0.....not bad 🙂

It's Microsoft, should we really feel bad for them if they lose a few bucks? lol

is there a site that tells you about this? like on microsoft.com?

i would like to know the Official MS quote on what type of mice you can send in.
cause the little smooth plastic "feet" on the bottom of my mouse are wearing down so now its sliding on the hard plastic.

How do I tell what version of the Intellimouse Explorer mouse I have ? I have 3 in my possession and 2 of them have always been acting screwy. :|

I sent them my fax at the end of last week.
I have yet to hear anything or even get a e-mail.

Should I try again or just wait?

I'm not sure they acknowledge beyond sending out the replacements. I send my stuff in several weeks ago, and have not heard anything, but I'm not expecting anything for at least several more weeks.

didn't get confirmation, but it arrived in about 5 days.

if you have oem u probably won't ever get a thing.

must say, this explorer 3 beats the pants off my hosed 1.0. that thing sucked bad seriously. huge ungainly.. ick.

Anyone? Anyone know ?

I guess you guys haven't figure out that all you need to do is search the net for part number and then call in and tell them that your mouse/keyboard etc is broken. Most of them will not ask you for the product id and will send you a new one. Yes this is illegal; yes its immoral no I don't care.

nice!
i have four dead original intellimouse explorers...
one the button double clicks everyonce in a while,
one the wheel gets stuck inbetween and the page scrolls up and down randomly, very fast,
one flickers on and off depending on the position of the cable,
and the other has all three of these problems.

ha!@

Wow.. I'm on the only unlucky bastard on these forums to have gotten a 1.0 optical explorer that is still working perfectly for me after tens of thousands of hours of use? That's pretty rough but I guess that's life.

The label on the bottom of the mouse tells you. If it just says Intellimouse Explorer then it's an original 1.0 version. The 3.0's at least say Intellimouse Explorer 3.0a on the bottom.

I just got a confirmation yesterday that said they shipped me a new Explorer 3.0a.

The 1.0 that I have been using on my desk has worked until about a week ago. The others have been weird since shortly after I got them.

How long does it usually take for them to contact you about your fax to them? It was faxed 2 days ago and I don't believe I saw an email back from MS yet... more afraid that I deleted it by accident...

I just verified none of the 3 Intellimouse Explorers have any version number on the underside... so they must all be 1.0s... and 2/3 are flaky.

Well I sent the fax in about a week ago and got the confirmation bout 2 days later. Only problem is, my order is on backorder and the estimated shipping date was 4/28, and I just checked and the 4/28 date suddenly changed to 12/22/03...I seriously hope that is not right.

do you think people care?

if you abuse it, then this offer will be removed. and one day, when you really do need it, it wont be there.

and yes, some people do care.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this.

I actually have 3 old mice (Intellimouse Pro, and two original trackballs (white)).

While I hate that they replaced my intellimouse pro w/ an intellimouse optical....i'm thankful I kept these mice in my dust drawer after they quit working. I never knew M$ft took care of it's hardware warranties so well.

So, thx for the head's up. I know ppl will take advantage of this....but it worked great for my 3 dead mice. Took about 3-4 days b4 I got the response email....but they're on the way.

I faxed MS per the instructions provided here, got a response in 48 hours or so, and my mouse about a week later. (Brand-new MS IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0.) Props to MS!

Just called. Now they also want a copy of your receipt.

Anybody else experience this? I've been slacking on getting in on this (my broken mice are somewhere under piles of computer stuff) and am wondering if I should even bother. TIA
