Saw this in another thread last year, and then again this year, and thought that most people involved were crooks because my original explorer mouse was still going strong after 3+ years.

3 weeks ago it stopped working, spoke to M$, faxed them the info, and received the replacement about 10 days later.

My thanks to fellow Anandtech'ers for making me aware of this.

Anyone know if you can still get an Intellimouse Explorer 1.0 from Microsoft? I don't like how small the side buttons are on the 3.0. When this 1.0 dies [my last one], I'm going to have to find a new favorite mouse 🙁

I don't think you can. I have an Intellimouse Explorer 1.0 and I much prefer its shape over the new 3.0 model. I replaced one of mine that had burned out a few months ago with this offer and received a 3.0. I'm not complaining, because it was great of Microsoft to offer such a great plan on replacing the products, but I really miss the way the old mouse felt.

Has anyone tried this on microsoft's optical trackballs? Mine has been acting really funny lately. It double clicks when only single clicked(could be my KVM tho, but the trackball is a lot older), and it's starting to really bug me...

You should call that number and try and maybe they can tell you if it's still under warranty or not.

On another note, I received my keyboard replacement for my Natural KB Pro and they sent me a Natural MM pro instead. I think they did this because they no longer show the NKB Pro on their site. The new one is nice but I really wish it had a USB Hub with it like my old keyboard. That extra USB port was very helpful. I called this in last Thursday and received it yesterday afternoon. I also finally got my tracking # for my Intellimous Explorer and should be arriving between tomorrow and Friday.

they'll replace keyboards too? Damn, I had a internet pro go bad on me, I would have liked a replacement, but I threw it out months ago...

DonaldC, you don't even need to call them... just fax them and they will ship you new mouses! I sent three faxes and got three mouse (all retail)!!! BTW, this doesn't work if you have OEM mouses... check the barcode on your mouse!

I had a broken OEM Intellimouse optical I was going to replace but when I looked on the bottom, it clearly stated on the mouse it was OEM. I think from now on though, I will only buy RETAIL ms kb/mice just for this great replacement policy.

I received my Intellimouse Explorer on Thursday. Quick one week turnaround!
was it that OEM one mentioned in the above post?

No, it was for a retail. I didn't not report my OEM mouse because I would have to take it to my local computer store but I believe it's past the 1 yr for that one.

For the keyboard issue, you can call the same phone # listed on the first page. They do not require you to fax anything to them.

MS will not replace OEM mice, I tried replacing an OEM optical soon after they replaced my retail Explorer that went bad last year.

I may finally have to make use of this information. MY right mouse button has started to fail. Takes several tries sometimes for the computer to register the right click.

I have a MS Natural Elite Internet keyboard that flaked out on me about 6 months after buying it, several keys on the left side stopped working, I just threw it on the floor beside my desk and went back to my original Natural keyboard (new keyboards from MS are so flimsy compared to the original ones, guess I shouldn't be suprised). Will they do the same thing for keyboards?

Thanks.

How does one get the photocopies? Even if I use the lightest setting, it will not turn out.

I just put the mouse on a flatbed scanner, then I ran the image through the "photocopy" filter in Photoshop. Printed it out and it was perfectly clear.

I just received my replacement for my cordless wheel mouse and internet keyboard. They did not ask me to fax anything. If you don't ask them to replace BLuetooth and Explorers, they usually don't ask you to fax anything.

So, my intellimouse optical acts wierd some times. It'll be sitting there, not being touched, and the pointer is moving on it's own. Not accross the screen or anything, but just in place as if the "eye" were loose or something.

Is this normal? Is there a prob with it? Or is it just possessed and will it come alive and kill me if I look in the mirror and say "mousy man" 5 times?

I have had this happen before with my ms intelli-mouse optical. It just does that sometimes but so far I have had no problems with it other than that, it stops if you just move the mouse slightly

My intellimouse explorer 1.0 died on me a few months ago. To replace it, I bought a Wireless Intellimouse Explorer, (I needed it immediately). I like it, wireless is pretty cool, but the thing eats batteries. Anyway, once I found out about this, I photocopied the broken mouse, faxed it in, and I received my new Intellimouse Explorer 4 days later.

Now, I'm waiting for my parents to send it to me at school ... :|

Is there any other way we can send the information and picture of the bottom of the mouse? I do not have access to a fax machine. Is there any way it could be done via email or anything?

No all I need is to find somebody with a scanner...

Way to go idiots.

People who spread shite like this should be banned. Microsoft is providing a very good service to people with broken mice and then dipwads like you come along and abuse the service.

🙄

Do you really have to be a jerk?
Your second post on this subject is more along the line of how you should post.
You just assume that everyone is abusing the service...the fact of the matter is that people all over the country is and have been sitting on a useless mouse, because the mice DO GO BAD.
Maybe you should start your own forum and ban people...:disgust: (I wish there was a emotion icon for the finger)
