I carry a 7" Kabar sometimes just because I can. I've never stabbed anyone and I never intend to.

As a young kid in Boy Scouts, I remember being taught to carry a pocket knife at just about all times, and when older, a more appropriate knife as you see fit. We were given countless examples of when having a knife can save your life, or someone elses. Car crashes, first aid, natural disasters, etc are all emergencies where a knife can be crucial.

Of course that comes from a philosophy of self reliance, which appears to be at the opposite end of the spectrum from where the UK wants its subjects to be.

Anyone else remember that actress in London who got a warning from the police for waving a knife at 2 'utes that were attempting to break in to her home? She was inside her kitchen cooking FFS!!

Yeah I've always got a ~3" locking pocket knife with me. I only carry the Kabar when I need to annoy people like HAL9000.

Yeah we are more about being a community, where everyone can rely on everyone else, rather than every man for them selves. We like to set up community run projects like health systems and police that deal with certain aspects for the community.

Why can't you have both (like we do here) ?

Why can't you have both (like we do here) ?

Because you can either have a police force that are there to protect you, like in the UK. or you can have a police force where they aren't there to protect you, you have to protect yourself, like in the US. You can either have a health care system that is available to everyone all the time that anyone can rely on, like in the UK, or you can have a system where everyone has to provide their own health care by paying for it, like in the US. It's one or the other.

Have you been to America? The police are here to protect us. We also have the option of protecting ourselves.

And you can get free unlimited healthcare by visiting an emergency room.

Really?

I don't know anything about american health care other than the fact you have to pay for it.

Apparently. It costs $200 to ride in an ambulance!?

I'm sure all of the gang members are legally carrying their weapons. 🙄

No they aren't. Don't be stupid.

It only costs $200 to ride in an ambulance if you treat it like a taxi service.

Call the ambulance because you have a cough and need to go to the hospital... $200

Call the ambulance because you're having a stroke... free

Both times I was involved in incidents requiring an ambulance were covered by the city, no out of pocket expenses. And on the police being there to protect you HAL9000, police are almost always a reactionary tool.

PS: What happened to your avatar HAL?

*shrugs* disabled it.

Health care should be available free to everyone when needed.

What surprises me, is how much government surveillance and control you accept. From the outside looking in, it seems that there isn't an aspect of your life that's not directly ordered by others. It also seems as though those others spend a great deal of effort trying to catch you in the act of some minor infraction. The amount of control exorcised over your life is frightening to me.

I don't get why the CCTV stuff is a problem, it's a very good idea.

As for control... I don't see that in my life either, I've spoken to 3 police officers in my life in an official capacity, it's never been a problem.

Cliffs:

- Police use facebook to find pictures of people holding knives
- Police go to this guy's house to arrest him
- Police don't find the knife but find a Russian hat so they arrest him anyway

British people think they live in a "free" society :awe::awe:

British people think they speak "english" :awe::awe:

British police remind me of the San Angles police from Demolition Man.

"Enhance your calm..."

"Attention, dirtbag!"

its well known that britain is the most locked down police state next to danville california. in london they literally have cameras filming everything that occurs 24/7, which is almost as bad as danville having cops on every corner giving traffic tickets
