On MLK weekend, Trump went after the Congressman in a couple tweets after John Lewis let it be known that he does not think Trump is a legitimate president.

Trump also disparaged Lewis's district.

Can Trump possibly demonstrate less ability to handle the reigns of power, to rise above criticism and demonstrate here-to-for unseen maturity and proficiency in the role to which he has ascended?

Have at it defenders of the faith.

John Lewis - March from Selma to Montgomery, "Bloody Sunday," 1965

In 1965, at the height of the modern civil rights movement, activists organized a march for voting rights, from Selma, Alabama, to Montgomery, the state capital. On March 7, some 600 people assembled at a downtown church, knelt briefly in prayer, and began walking silently, two-by-two through the city streets.

With Hosea Williams of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) leading the demonstration, and John Lewis, Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), at his side, the marchers were stopped as they were leaving Selma, at the end of the Edmund Pettus Bridge, by some 150 Alabama state troopers, sheriff ’s deputies, and possemen, who ordered the demonstrators to disperse.

One minute and five seconds after a two-minute warning was announced, the troops advanced, wielding clubs, bullwhips, and tear gas. John Lewis, who suffered a skull fracture, was one of fifty-eight people treated for injuries at the local hospital. The day is remembered in history as “Bloody Sunday.” Less than one week later, Lewis recounted the attack on the marchers during a Federal hearing at which the demonstrators sought protection for a full-scale march to Montgomery. A transcript of his testimony is presented in the following pages.

How many times did Trump say essentially the same thing as Lewis did when Trump was the defacto head of the birther movement?

But while I consider John Lewis one of a handful of true modern day heroes I disagree with the statement he made. Trump will be President from the moment he is inaugurated until the moment he resigns or is otherwise removed from power.

Fully agree with this. My first thought was it was a stupid thing to say. The whole peaceful transition of power and all. Then I thought of Trump and the birtherism and I stopped caring. He earned it.

ROFL, no option for finishing the term.

Disgraceful. How dare Lewis impinge upon the legitimacy of the most legitimate president-elect in history? He's so legitimate, he's already negotiating deals with Taiwan and putting the screws to china!

It is clear; Lewis is just jealous that his C-SPAN show has such poor ratings in comparison to The Apprentice, and he is taking his frustration out on Donald Trump. Sad.

It does feel like it's headed that way. It's amusing to see the Trump cheerleaders insisting that he'll be around for 8 years when there are enough legal and competency issues to question whether or not he'll even last 4 years. He could... but remember, Trump fans, how you lambasted those who assumed that Clinton would be the next President? Yeah, hubris cuts both ways.

Attacking a civil rights champion making a fairly accurate remark is not the best way to start a presidency.

Guess he didn't get the word, Trump won, get over it.

I have a feeling you'd be saying that even if they impeached Trump and dragged him kicking and screaming from the Oval Office.

Look, we know you want to silence Trump's critics forever. That's never going to happen as long as he's an incompetent, egocentric asshole who's had dodgy business practices and is suspiciously kind to Russia. Get over it.

Solipsism as a virtue? Wow.

Also Trump is just displaying ignorance.
Trump is displaying brilliance as usual. Bypasses media on Twitter to deliver the blow and then watch the fallout as the media slobbers over it. Brilliant.

guess drumpf didn't get the word, Lewis marched with MLK, shed sweat, tears and blood in the name of civil rights. remind me again what drumpf was doing back then?
Who gives a fuck? Trump's fucked prime pussy and made more money than Lewis would ever know what to do with. Trump's bio will be written in books by the thousands while Lewis will have a handful. Lewis isn't shit compared to our next President and he just got smacked as bad as the little chihuahua from CNN.

Lewis has every right to criticize Trump's legitimacy.

However, Lewis isn't above rebuke or response just because he marched at Selma. Lewis entered the field of battle with Trump. He is going to get a response.

Outrage not found.

He was making sure that black people couldn't rent apartments in his father's buildings. Lol.
