Fine but how about you explain to me why I see this:
"Worn Outer Edges:
This type of tire wear can be found on a visual inspection where the outer edges of the tire are worn smoothly. This is typically caused by low air pressure."
on cars with rotated tires that are inflated to doorjamb pressure? That would indicate to me under-inflated tires..

/facepalm

Tires inflated to auto manufacturer suggested psi are not under inflated.

Of course, you ignored reading and quoting this:

Worn Center Tread:
This type of tire wear can be found on a visual inspection where the tire tread is worn gradually from the outer edge to the inner tire tread. This is typically caused by over inflated tires and/or improperly sized rims/tires.

Fleabag...buy a moped and call it a day. You'll save a lot more gas with a lot less hassle.

Shouldn't damage anything as long as you keep enough fluid in the rack to lubricate it, but your steering is going to be much harder than a plain manual rack. You'll have to push and balance fluid on both sides of the rack through small holes and back and forth through the valve with the force of the steering wheel alone; it has to go somewhere when you force the rack left or right since it can't compress.

Since the valve would be the highest point left in the system after removing the pump, and fluid would leak out when you remove the hoses, it would be difficult to be sure the valve isn't running dry unless you deliberately placed your loopback hose in such a way that you could top it before sealing it.

Dry, yes it will ruin it. There are lots of seals and teflon rings that rely on the fluid for lubrication.

Is this another idea to get .5 more mpg on a car that already gets 30+ ? Auto manufacturers are already going over to "on demand" electric power steering that only runs the pump when needed instead of all the time.

My car has electric power steering, there is no pump at all, an electric motor is connected to the steering shaft. The fuel savings is gained by not having a pump running off the engine..

How long until another epic fleabag thread will be locked? Why does every fleabag thread turn in a "inflate to sidewall" thread? What are the chances fleabag actually knows what he is talking about? So many questions, so little time....

I find it entertaining, somewhat like P&N, but less vitriol.

Go ahead and remove the belt, your young and strong enough to handle steering chores without assist and swap the drive train out too, use your abilities to the fullest I say..

You'd get better fuel mileage by stripping out all non-essential interior parts. Creature comforts, if you will.

Back seat, passenger seat, radio, air conditioning, carpet, sound deadening, console, trim, accessories, etc.

If the car has a spoiler or exhaust tip, take that off as well.

I'm not kidding. The weight reduction would be far more beneficial if your true goal is to get the best mileage that you can.

but wait there's more!
ya know what's the point of all that tubing past the exhaust manifold? i bet if you just vent the exhaust into the engine compartment you could save a lot of weight! how about that engine flywheel?

I say go for it. When you end up removing the transmission instead of the power steering pump because you don't have the first clue wtf you are doing maybe you'll be so shamed you stop coming and asking idiotic questions.

Have you ever actually done anything to a car besides putting gas in the tank? You're like a kid who talks about sex all the time but giggles and runs away when a girl actually puts a move on.

"overinflated" is a relative term.. I could call a woman here fat and a woman in uganda fat, who do you think weighs more?

Actually you wont and per their weight, they're extremely inefficient.. 80mpg for a vehicle that weighs 250lbs with two wheels and not much else? No thanks..

You wouldn't find it strange for a woman to make a move on you? If a Woman does that, then she's probably the dominant type, making you her cream puff.

Yet, under-inflated is following the recommend Auto Manufacturer's tire psi that's posted in the door?

Were you burn retarded or did the school kids hit you in the headed too many times from throwing rocks at you?

Like others have said, you'd be better off reducing weight by pulling out the passenger and back seat. We all know you wouldn't have passengers in your car, that would add weight and reduce your mpg.

The manufacturer's recommendation may not get you killed but it is certainly not the most safe inflation pressure nor the best for fuel economy. They choose that rating because it's the bare minimum, they'd go even lower if they knew there wasn't a safety risk in doing so. Low tire pressure is a cheap trick to make a car more comfortable. At the cost of aesthetics, if they really wanted to make a car "comfy" they'd put tires with huge sidewalls and tiny rims with low inflation pressure, then adjust the suspension accordingly.

Much safer than an idiot like yourself recommending inflating their tires to max sidewall, regardless of the vehicle and even during the winter.

weight is half the reason mopeds and motorcycles *are* efficient.

goddamn you are retarded.

So 80mpg is not better than 50mpg? Duly noted.

And another fleabag thread delivers........

Mommy and Daddy won't let him stay out after dark or talk to "strange" women, errrr, girls in his case.

I know, I don't even remember Casio being slammed like this, another thread with a generous pelting of abuse but hey, he's still posting!!.

So, you want to change your trans. so you can get better mileage going uphill on your way to the gym. You want to disconnect your power steering so you use less fuel at idle at stoplights (we all know you don't warm up your car). 80mpg is inefficient. You know more about tire wear than an ASE certified mechanic with 20+ years experience (including tire shop) because you study tires in parking lots.

Do this shit sound really stupid to you? It should, cause it does to all of us. I understand you're young and a bit immature but if you ever want to be taken seriously
you need to think things thru before post and stop spewing out this kind of crap. If you are incapable of that maybe you should find somewhere else to post.

Uh.. yeah that would be the pump; it's still a high pressure hydraulic system and still needs a pressure pump. The difference is that it's not running all the time and bypassing when it's not needed; the electric pump just starts and stops instantly as needed.

omg you're a moron..

Efficient and using a little amount are NOT THE SAME YOU MORON!:D

A semi-truck is QUITE EFFICIENT despite its 3-7mpg fuel consumption. Why? Because they can move 40 tons worth of shit! A moped on the other hand, while has a minute amount of consumption in comparison, is NOT efficient.

So 80mpg is not better than 50mpg? Duly noted.
80mpg is better but for what you get, it's not... You can get 100mpg out of a Prius if you drive it correctly, therefore making the purchase of a moped seem retarded.
