Im sitting upstairs, reading, and suddenly, i hear my car outside my window starts up....

Interesting.

I had a remote start system installed 2-3 months ago, the keys are downstairs hanging up on a key holder (the buttons couldnt have depressed on accident)

Any ideas? :)

Well, it does automatically turn off if someone steps on the brake... And the alarm is still armed.

Just dont terribly like the idea of my car starting itself now :D

Does a neighbor have a similar alarm system? If they pressed a button on their remote, it may have accidently triggered your alarm. Just few days ago, my car alarm went off (from the thunder) and few seconds later, the alarm just shut off and headlights flashed, but I never touched my remote to turn it off. My neighbor has the same system as me and I think they thought it was their car that went off.

Doubt it... Were all in fairly close confines here in my development (townhouses), and i've never heard an alarm chirp like mine.

Also, to remote start the car, i have to press the lock button once, then press and hold both lock and unlock for ~ 2 seconds.

don't suppose it could be something as simple as the button being stuck on the remote?

It shares that radio frequency with tons of stuff, probably just random interference that happened to set it off.

some have a feature that will start it up for a few minutes every hour or so, maybe you selected this?

This is why I do not like all things remote control...

Ideas? Buggy remote, buggy system, hack.

I don't like the end result to any of the three problems above. Good luck.

my old top of the line alarm/remote starter had a feature that will start the car if the outside temperature drops below certain degree...

Why would you need it to do that?

Because it is top of the line?
