My IBM thinkpad comes with the recovery partition instead of windows OS CDs. The harddisk died during warrenty and I went to have it replaced, during which I asked the support guy what I'm supposed to do if the harddisk dies on me beyond my warrenty.

He explained to me their license with Microsoft for Windows OEM dictates that they either provide the customer with the CD, or have it on the harddisk, but not both. IBM chose the latter.

If you don't believe me, go here and start configuring an Inspiron http://www1.us.dell.com/content/product.../entnb_e1505_2?c=us&cs=2236&l=en&s=eep

I found the option through this link. It is on the third page "Accesories" And it is the very last option. I think that is what it is anyways....

I just picked up a Dell E510 for my wife. The amount of spyware, adware, and trialware pre-installed on the thing is horrible, enough that I would think twice about buying another Dell.
