Someone please explain why a Dell purchased through the education private purchase system cannot come with an OS install CD. How do they expect you to get rid of the 10 gigs of junk and spyware they preload? I'd have been happy with the option to buy the media for $10, but they decided not to give me the option and instead I have to copy my friend's disc.

You can get a disc by calling up their support and demanding one.

I know this because I work in it.

Doesn't the image contain all the original contents of the hard drive?

Funny, somebody I know just purchased a Dell notebook online yesterday, and selected the OS media option for $10.

So I'm looking at the Dell Education order page right now and I see Genuine Windows® XP Professional, SP2, with media [Included in Price]

Yeah, I bought this laptop which didn't come with the cds but came with a utility to make floppy install disks. Took like 20-30 disks IIRC for windows 95. :|

you're supposed to ask for it. the configuration page usually asks you to purchase the OS installation CDs at $10 a pop.

I don't think you have any idea how many programs Dell puts on there. In any case, McCaffee can't be removed.

Meh...

I have a Dell laptop.

The first thing I did was format it and install pro corp on it.

To hell with all the companies that have recovery partitions. If the hard drive dies, then what?

The last system I had which came with a proper OS installation disc was a P200 with win95.
