My brothers used to work in the neighbourhood butcher shop. We'd get stuff cut that was about twice that size. It'd overhang over a 12" plate.

the butcher (who i know by name and talk to all the time) came over and started talking to me. asked if i wanted one.

i said those prices are great but what they had out was a little small. he said no problem. he had just what i like in the back and he would take care of me.

well about 5 minutes later he comes out with this! he had 2 for me this size. its fricken huge.

not to mention he undercharged me. i got it for $10 each!

now..its a little bigger then im used to grilling heh.

Awesome! One of the advantages to knowing your butcher!

Pop Tab Collection Program

* Many Ronald McDonald Houses work with local recycling centers to raise money by collecting tabs from aluminum cans.
* Ronald McDonald Houses collect pop tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because the tabs are pure high-quality aluminum, unlike cans, which consist of aluminum and other alloys. Tabs are also easier to store than whole cans.
* If your local Ronald McDonald House participates in the program, it?s likely cardboard collection containers in the shape of a house have been distributed to schools, community and civic groups and other organizations in your area, as well as at the Ronald McDonald House, local McDonald?s restaurants, local banks and grocery stores. You can collect pop tabs to donate to your House.
* After the tabs are collected, the local RMHC Chapter brings the collection to local recycling centers, where they are weighed to determine their value. One pound of tabs is worth 57 cents, and one gallon of pop tabs (4,175 tabs) is worth $1.49.
* The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter or House a check for the total value. To date, more than 400 million pop tabs have been collected, generating more than $4 million.

My grandpa's been collecting them for years and shipping them off to our nearest RMH. Everyone in my family grew up immediately pulling tabs when we open a can.

And, how does he ship them off to the nearest RMH? If he mails them, everyone would come out much further ahead if he'd just put $2 into an envelope and pay for a 42 cent stamp - it'd be cheaper for him to ship, and they'd end up with more money for less effort. Don't forget, although they get (probably about 80 cents per pound now) money for taking them to a recycling center, they also have costs associated with collecting them and transporting them.

Oh, and if he drives them over, then he probably spends more money on gas than they're worth as well. Just send cash. Think about it: 4175 tabs is worth $1.49 (according to the article) - that's a family of 4 each having having 3 canned beverages every day for almost 1 year. 1 year of collecting tabs, and it amounts to $1.49. You could make 10 times that amount just picking up the pennies & nickels on the ground in parking lots that you walk past.

He's got the entire family collecting, so it's a fairly large amount. He doesn't send them by mail/fedex/ups, we've just wound up calling it 'shipping' over the years because everyone knows to pick up a load of tabs from him if they're going near the RMH. I pretty much take care of it now because I work 5 blocks from one of their offices. Any time he knows he's going to see me, he'll bring a bundle with and I walk them over.

Given the size of your meat (when not using the magnifying glass), I am sure that the crows would have a field day for a couple of seconds.

That beer had better be ice cold when I get there - otherwise out comes the ban sticks (from both of us).

Looks good! I like a really large Porterhouse, like 3.5 pounds. Why isn't it shaped like an alternator? He could have cut it like an alternator.

OK! I'm buying from a Mexican butcher now in a small market. A couple times I've asked for ground round and he tosses a few steaks in the grinder, really fresh and lean.
