well i went into jewel to get some stuff. walking by the butcher area they had a good deal on porterhouse steaks at $6.99 a lb.

the butcher (who i know by name and talk to all the time) came over and started talking to me. asked if i wanted one.

i said those prices are great but what they had out was a little small. he said no problem. he had just what i like in the back and he would take care of me.

well about 5 minutes later he comes out with this! he had 2 for me this size. its fricken huge.

not to mention he undercharged me. i got it for $10 each!

now..its a little bigger then im used to grilling heh.

That's a fine looking porterhouse and a steal at that. That's exactly why you should get to know your butcher.

What is the deal with the tabs?

Hopefully they're not falling for one of these:

no clue. but since it si little effort to pull off a tab i don't mind.

Also they asked us to collect cans and box tops (the ones with points on them).

Ronald McDonald House collects them
Pop Tab Collection Program

* Many Ronald McDonald Houses work with local recycling centers to raise money by collecting tabs from aluminum cans.
* Ronald McDonald Houses collect pop tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because the tabs are pure high-quality aluminum, unlike cans, which consist of aluminum and other alloys. Tabs are also easier to store than whole cans.
* If your local Ronald McDonald House participates in the program, it?s likely cardboard collection containers in the shape of a house have been distributed to schools, community and civic groups and other organizations in your area, as well as at the Ronald McDonald House, local McDonald?s restaurants, local banks and grocery stores. You can collect pop tabs to donate to your House.
* After the tabs are collected, the local RMHC Chapter brings the collection to local recycling centers, where they are weighed to determine their value. One pound of tabs is worth 57 cents, and one gallon of pop tabs (4,175 tabs) is worth $1.49.
* The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter or House a check for the total value. To date, more than 400 million pop tabs have been collected, generating more than $4 million.

My grandpa's been collecting them for years and shipping them off to our nearest RMH. Everyone in my family grew up immediately pulling tabs when we open a can.

Nice work waggy, looks delicious!

A steak that big, I'd have to cook it to rare in the oven then finish it on the grill, since that's the best control I can manage. What method did you use?

ohh that would have been good.

i just had a low heat setting on one side (most of the coals on one side). first few minutes on hot area then switched to the low side.

its just perfect.

got a bunch of extra for sandiwches, noodles, etc and the great part? i have a bigger steak in the freezer!

true.

but the doctor that did it asked if we ever wanted kids again. we both said no.

so he cut it, sautered the ends and folded them back and used medal clips to fold them over.

odds are very low with how he did it.
