I remember back in 96, my micron comp came with MSN , we had to pay by the hour.
Then we got AOL3.0 because of unlimited access. =\
after a while of that my pops got cheap and cancelled it. We kept using the free aol cds for like 6 months because every time we would try to cancel they gave us another free month. It would cut off and they would send another CD, and the cycle of life started once again. I got tired of that crap so we got PDQ.net , 10 bucks a month and it was sponsered by Rudy Tomjonavich (sp?) the coach of the Houston Rockets. After that we switched to esc4 because it was 5 a month.. Somewhere inbetween there we tried Compuserv
OH WHAT A NIGHTMARE. The normal access numbers disconnected me every 45min regardless if I was idle or not. I used this 1800 number in the options, but I didn't realize it was 10 CENTS per minute. lol , being the power user I am ;], I used this for about 2 weeks straight because it got fast speeds and NEVER disconnected me, I wonder why lol. Ya then I crapped my pants when I found out I owed 300 dollars for 2 weeks of internet use.

Well we challenged it and denied charges on the CC, long story short they let it go thank God =).

I've had Swbell ADSL for a year now, this is the only broadband in my area but I do get good speeds. RR cable just moved into our area last month, my friend got it and he gets max speeds but his ping sucks sometimes in games.

Prodigy, on the mighty 386-16 with the math co-processor, a whole 4 meg ram and a whopping 20 meg HD on my trusty Perstor controller.....Ahhhh...the memories......😉

BTW-they were hella fast too. But then I switched to ISDN and their ISDN was hella expensive.

I had it running on an 8086 before I built my 286 and 386.

Didn't Prodigy used to be connected with Sears somehow?

 
i've been following netcom. netcom was eaten up by some larger corporation (name of which escapes me) and then
that corporation was bought by earthlink. now i call earthlink for any and all issues.
 
I had an account with MSN back when it was mainly chatrooms. That was in 95 or 96 and I'd dial in from work.

When I bought my first PC I used IBM Global Network... best ISP at the time according to all the PC magazines.

It was great, but then IBM decided to kill it and I was forced to go to Earthlink.
 
Technology Dimensions - local ISP. Solid connections. Pricey, no frills. Was eventually bought out by my next ISP.
Voyager.net - regonial ISP. Poor excuse for an ISP. Eventually bought out by an even bigger and crappier ISP. Ditched them before that happened.
Mindspring - Best of the bunch considering only dial-up available at the time.
Ameritech - first ISP to offer broadband in my area.
 
Galaxyinternet.net (formerly custom.net) back in 1998. I dialed up at 19.2kbit/sec (not the lines on my end, but theirs), and frequently got disconnected. They sucked then, they suck now, and they probably always will suck. After putting up with their antics for way too long, I finally switched to an ISP called Airnwire (they offered wireless and dialup services), which since then has become Joink. For the most part, I'm pleased with their services.
 
Also got some aol accounts from my friend, but lanset was my first, litttle local isp and even still using it today
