all of Microprose's games (F-15, silent service, Red Storm Rising, F-19 Stealth, Airbore Ranger, etc, etc)

Silent Service rocked!!!!!!

Why has no one mentioned "Impossible Mission"?

Impossible Mission rocked!!!!!!

loved the SUmmer Games and most all of Epyx's games.

No one has mentioned
Jumpman yet....???

Actually, my grandmother was Swedish - hence my "nom de plume"

And speaking of the ZX Spectrum, it was one of the most copied microcomputers of al time. Everybody was making clones, especially in the East. At some point, around '91, there was even a ZX Spectrum clone with floppy drive and some other goodies... I believe it was made in Russia....

Indeed? My grandmother was also Swedish. She was born in Falshiping (sp?) but immigrated to the US as a little girl a long time ago. Her family name was Anderson and they settled in Iowa, where my mother was raised on a farm. I wish I could have learned some Swedish from her while she was still alive. She has been gone for about 20 years now.

C64 was my first comp; we later got the C128. I remember writing little progs in basic and waiting for what seemed like hours for anything to (for the love of God, please) load from the tape drive. I spent as much time as Mom would let me messing with that thing.

Here's anothing blast from the past...anyone else here that had a Colecovision console? They were so cool; you could play Coleco and Atari games on them!

My favorite games:

Artillery Duel
Boulder Dash
Bruce Lee
Bubble Bobble
California Games
Ghettoblaster (aka Street Beat)
Ghostbusters
Hot Wheels
Jumpman (and Jumpman Jr.)
Law Of The West
Leaderboard
M.U.L.E.
Mercenary
Park Patrol
Roadwar 2000
Rocket Ball
Seafox
Seawolf
Seven Cities Of Gold
Skate Or Die
Spy Vs Spy (series)
Squish 'Em
Summer Games (1+2)
Tapper
Test Drive
Toy Bizarre
Transformers
Winter Games
Yie Ar Kung Fu

As you can guess, I have an emulator on my PC now. 😉 CCS64, the best one. I also still own the original C64.

Ah yes...the memories...I had about 4 cartridges for my C64...the rest were tape...the cartridges were sooooo expensive!

Hey does anyone remember the name of the company who made tapes that had like 4 games on them, all quite good ones?

I remember when i bought Bubble Bobble for the C64, I was so excited!....then it didn't work!! 🙁...but I later got it for the NES anyway! 🙂

Do you also remember that there were several variations like the 64C etc....and the less well known C128 of course that was mentioned in this....what was the spec of that?

I also had a Commodore Plus/4....not sure what the spec of that was...don't think it had cartridge, just tape.....which looked identical to the C64's tape deck but was black....and didn't work with the C64!...Gotta get an emulator for the C64....I did have one....but I couldn't get it to work....so spent about 3 mins typing in rubbish, making it go "Syntax Error" etc and then got bored.

Boulder Dash for me also. Never seen a good copy of it. Was it by USGold? Oh those loading times from your Datasette! If it doesn't load, try adjusting the heads...lol 🙂 What about "Thing on a Spring"? Remember Jeff Minter and "Attack of the Mutant Camels" and Andy Crowthers "Loco"...cool games... 🙂

If not, does anyone know what game that was, it rocked! 🙂

Yes, that was Archon. here's some screenshots from the original game:

hey, looks like somebody's working on a new version of the game...supposedly freeware, and supposedly able to be played over network/internet! cool! I'm definitely bookmarking this site:

YAY!!

Man, gotta love people with too much time on their hands 😀

Straubs mentioned Test Drive...yes, how could I forget that, that was an awesome driving game at the time. And he also mentioned Roadwar 2000, which made me immediately think of another one of my forgotten favorites...Autoduel! That was a cool game!

And another one which I enjoyed immensely was Articfox...it was almost like a very good sequel to the Battlezone arcade game.

I am actually thinking about rewriting Roadwar 2000 in C++ (and possibly OpenGL for graphics?) for a summer project. It's a mostly text-based game so, it shouldn't be TOO hard. I've already collected all the info I could find on it on the web. I own the original on floppy from SSI. So I have the original manuals, map, etc. I also have the c64 ROM, the Apple IIe ROM and the Amiga ROM.

I will probably put a web site up this month with the project plans, all the info I have, and possibly a mailing list. So far I've been thinking about having 2 modes. Authentic original, and completely modifiable for new cars, maps, etc...

I'm going to check out autoduel before this, as I've read about the simularities, but never played it myself.

awww.. brings back so much memory tho I was still so young to remember it all.. I was around 10 years old when I had me C64..
it was me first computer..... there wasnt much I did with it except play a few games... I think my fav game was something called winter olympics.... miss that c64.... good and reliable...

miss that c64.... good and reliable...

I know it was good for it's time, but reliable? Hell no! 😛

Those 5 and 1/4" disks would go bad if you LOOKED at them wrong, I swear to God!!! Some games running off the original store-bought media would even have problems form time to time.

In it's later years, I had to open up the unit and leave it in two pieces so it wouldn't lock up from heat! I would say reliable is one of the last words I'd use to describe a C64...

ahh, c'mon. I had about 10-20 disks that I spilled Mountain Dew all over (I know, I know, I learned my freaking lesson 😉 )...anyway, slit the tops of the square-outer-protector/jacket open, slide the actual disk out, fill up the sink with water, put all the mountain dew'ed disks in the sink, washed the off with soap and water, dried em off, and good as new! they continued to work fine for years after that...

...now, that being said, I still wouldn't say that the C64 was reliable...especially that freaking power supply...

Ahhh... BASIC and the days of Oregon Trail... some good times.

I was probably around 8 or 9 years old then.

I use to love Law Of The West. Sure it took forever to load, and was pretty slow playing, but it was fun.
Archon owned. I LOVED Realm Of Impossibility. Space Taxi was fun cos the speech "hay taxi! pad 5 peas!"

I love my c64 *siiigh*

Law of the West. Classic Accolade games. I think MicroProse, Accolade, Epyx were the main game producers back then, and they all rocked.

C64 was great
Loved playing empire

steam has a modern remake that runs on modern hardware while still being true to the original
